Having trans!Dean thoughts about his relationship with Sam and John.

I can see Dean holding a lot of resentment against Sam for the ways he fails to live up to John’s expectations. I think this is already present in the show, but having it compounded by the fact that Sam isn’t want John wants his son to be, and so he has to “settle” for Dean, but Dean can do everything except be cis so he’s still never treated as enough by John. So Dean has this resentment because Sam could have all the love/acknowledgment/attention/respect that Dean is desperate for and can’t have, but he’s choosing not to take it and Dean can’t get far enough beyond himself to understand why Sam is making those choices. Dean sees his suffering as a kind of sacrifice or penance he pays for the both of them to ensure that Sam gets to live the life that Dean never did. But then he projects his own desires in life onto Sam and can’t see past them when Sam doesn’t want the same.

I think this would also compound with a lot of aspects of internalized masculinity in Dean’s head and the sense that trans people owe you gender conformity for the crime of rejecting their birth sex. Dean talks gruff and womanizes and keeps his hair cropped and acts like knowledge is stupid because he is grasping at the image of masculinity that John is modeling for the chance at validation. Which makes it all the more frustrating for him when Sam grows out his hair, flaunts his nerdiness, and does the bleeding heart routine. Dean can’t afford to drop even an ounce of the shroud of masculinity because it’s already not convincing enough. He still has the doe eyes and the soft features and the slim waist and the bravado distracts from that. You can’t see the binder under daddy’s leather jacket and too many shirts.
