Things are escalating in the headcanon development, today I bring you a lengthy post with two different relationships.

As always, DISCLAIMER, if you want to use any of these prompts or headcanons for any type of fan work (fanfic, fanart, incorporate them in your headcanons) I'd like to be credited as at least inspiration.

Neji + Tenten + Lee

- Lee is a trans dude and he's presented as such since as far as he can recall but Gai was the first adult to affirm his identity. Gai is the one Lee came to when he got his first period and Gai pulled from his years of experience with Kakashi to help him navigate that but also to get Tenzo to teach him how to bind with tape because he refused to let Lee develop bad habits like binding with bandages or wearing a binder while doing strenuous activity (he's still fighting with Kakashi about that to this day)

- usually, if Lee is having bouts of dysphoria he comes to Gai but Gai has had to involve Kakashi and Tenzo before when things got particularly intense.

- Gai convinces Lee to tell Neji and Tenten when their bond as a team started getting stronger and it went well, Tenten is transfem so it's not like she cared much and Neji was just willing to to support anything that strays for the norm just to spite his clan and also not accepting it would be inconvenient for their team work (In this AU Neji gets to say "fuck this clan I do what I want" early and live)

- Tenten is just vibing, she loves her weapons, she likes her team well enough, she likes going on missions and learning new things. Nobody has really cared for what she did with her life so she's just doing her thing. She's also the type to think attraction and romance are a performance and not something real, Gai will introduce her to the existence of asexuality and aromanticism later.

- Neji legitimately couldn't care less, he always thought he was "above stupid things like romance and sexual attraction", Gai will also tell him when he tells Tenten.

- Regarding Gender presentation he'll keep on dressing in a conventional manner until he starts noticing the looks his clan gives Naruto and Sai when they dress more feminine and then he'll decide to start doing that sometimes just to piss his clan off.

- Further down the line, when all his peers have been in relationships for a while and Team 7 are starting to sort their shit out, Neji will experiment with Kankuro (he's just all around queer) and then get a masterclass from Kankuro on the asexual spectrum and end up finding a label that fits (grey-sexuality). But it's a chill occasional thing they do sometimes and resulted from the fact that Gaara and Lee are together and that means the older sand siblings and Neji and Tenten have interacted plenty .

How the QPR became a thing

-Lee is full of love, platonic or romantic, it doesn't matter, but he's so effusive and enthusiastic about his affections and love displays that his platonic affection can get easily confused with romantic intentions, which is exactly what happens with Team Gai because miscommunication is the Ninja's best ability apparently.

- Basically, Tenten and Neji start confusing Lee's platonic affection for romance as their team gets closer and obviously they're not even aware of what aromanticism or asexuality are but they do know that's not a thing they do or can reciprocate, the issue is they don't have the heart to "turn Lee down" (even though Neji denies he has a soft spot for Lee like it's an olympic sport), so they do the next worst thing they could have done, they start distancing themselves. Mind you, Lee has come out to them and everything by this point, and the sudden distancing gets to him, going straight to his insecurities and making him think they don't want him around anymore. Gai notices his student is definitely more subdued than usual and so endeavours to find out what's wrong, Lee breaks on the first question because he just loves his friends so much and he doesn't understand why two weeks ago they stopped even going out for dango with him and won't have conversations with him over campfires during missions anymore. Gai, master at communication that he has become over years of dealing with Kakashi (who's allergic to communication) gets his students together to knock some sense into them and solve the misunderstanding. Here's where the conversation about the aroace spectrums takes place as well as a scolding on how relevant communication is for a team and for friends.

- once this is fixed and they start going back to their usual dynamic they actually start getting closer and Lee proposes to form a QPR, the other two agree even if Neji tries to act all nonchalant about it like he's just doing it to do something but his new platonic partners know him well enough to know he cares a lot about them he just has a hard time saying it.

Now onto the romantic relationship

Gaalee

- So, these two idiots (/affectionate) are oblivious as hell, Gaara because he never got a talk on anything regarding romance or sex growing up and also he was too preoccupied suffering 24/7 (it doesn't really help that he's demi-romantic), on the other hand, Lee is oblivious because he has a hard time telling apart platonic from romantic love.

- Lee becomes smitten after the Chunin exams (it's way more toned down and less murdery in my AU), he starts with a deep admiration for Gaara's strength and fighting abilities, and over time, with diplomatic meetings, evolves. He talks Neji and Tenten's ear off about Gaara, all day "Gaara this..." "Gaara that..." "The way Gaara fights is so youthful" "I need to spar with Gaara again".... And that's how Neji and Tenten realise Lee has got the biggest crush ever, instead of telling him tho they start teasing him but he's so oblivious he doesn't even realise they're teasing him, he truly is hopeless sometimes .

- Similarly, Gaara, who once had a crush on Naruto but never realised, starts seeing his thoughts invaded by Lee, it starts with small mentions of the fight and with the diplomatic visits evolved into commentaries like "Lee trains this way" "Lee does this when...." "lee says...." And not unlike Neji and Tenten, Temari and Kankuro had seen this with Naruto before and are kind of glad Gaara has a new crush even if he isn't aware because they knew Naruto wouldn't have reciprocated and their brother has been through enough to have to handle his first crush being a heartbreak. They will spend months trying their hardest not to laugh as the mentions of Lee grow and Gaara is still oblivious as hell.

- in the end, Neji and Tenten ask Gai to maybe have a conversation with Lee about Gaara, see if he can make Lee realise he's in love. Only it turns out that Lee had realised a week ago when all of them went to get some dango with Gaara when the diplomatic meeting ended and Lee looked at Gaara and had the thought of kissing him. Lee tells Gai " I love him, like, "I want to kiss him" love him" and Gai bursts into his usual speeches about the youthfulness of young love and how Lee has grown up so much.

- Meanwhile, in Suna, the older Sand siblings have had enough of Gaara going on about Lee this, lee that without realising his feelings and Temari chooses the next mention of Lee to tell him "you're in love with him idiot" (0 tact there btw, just straight up facts) Gaara just stares blankly because he's sure that's not a thing he does so he doesn't get what Temari is on about and Kankuro has to step in to explain sexuality spectrums and gender and what not. Gaara then realises he kind of actually thinks Lee is very attractive (Temari could have told you he thought that already almost a year ago btw) and he kind of wants to hold his hand and cuddle with him.

- after they confess to each other, which Lee is over the moon about for 2 weeks afterwards, the San siblings and other 2 members of Team Gai really were expecting to get rid of their lovesick talk but it actually gets worse. Lee just won't shut up about everything he loves about Gaara, and his plans to spar next time or to go for some Dango and what not. Gaara is just moping half the time "lee would..." "I haven't seen Lee in a while....", Temari and Kankuro take full advantage to go back to reading sibling mode and start flustering Gaara by interrupting his rants to ask him if he needs to write Lee another letter that week (he likely had sent like 5 already). They're ridiculous.

-Also, Lee forgets he hasn't told Gaara about being trans and when he just happens to get his period during a dangi outing and flinches a bit from a cramp, the soft concern from Gaara on a possible injury is so endearing Lee just has to reassure him it's fine by telling him. Gaara couldn't care less, he just tells Lee, with all his intensity, that he loves Lee for Lee so whatever Lee happens to be is fine by him. lee cries out of happiness and love.

-There are in fact some shovel talks. Neji and Tenten make it clear to Gaara that they don't care if he's a Kazekage, if he hurts Lee there'll be consequences. Temari and Kankuro prepare a shovel talk because their brother has been through enough already but they never get to give it because the moment they meet Lee it's Lee himself who bows and promises to never hurt Gaara and, in case that were to happen, even on accident, he'd punish himself thoroughly. Temari and Kankuro are actually emotional that someone loves their little brother so much, in fact, it impacts them so much they actually give Gaara a talk on not hurting that precious boy because they know his bluntness can be a good thing but can also be really hurtful sometimes, even if it's on accident.

- also, Gaara approves of the QPR because the way Lee explains it that's basically his family and Gaara appreciates Lee has a family that cares about him and is willing to even fight Gaara to protect him.

- One day, Gaara will be cuddling with Lee and wake up in the middle of the night to the realisation that he once had a crush on Naruto and then smile and be glad that he never realised because he can't fathom the possibility of not having fallen in love with Lee if he'd chosen to pursue Naruto.

Gai carries pads with him at all times. He has since he was a kid and his best friend Kakashi got that first terrible period, and he will continue to do so until the day that he dies.

If Tenten or Lee ever runs out during a mission or just when the team is hanging out together, they know that they can ask their Sensei for some.

Plus he usually has a few chocolates, painkillers (Tenten doesn't mind taking them but Lee hates them) and other necessities for a good day of suffering.

Showing Naruto how to take care of his binder on missions and always making sure his student has all of the required products when his menstrule cycle hits

Standing by Gai’s side watching Lee get his first T-Shot. Being the supportive dad when Lee starts talking about getting his tube’s tied young because he doesn’t want to have any risk for having kids.

Going shopping with Kurenai and Hinata and watching as they pick out cute new outfits for Hinata while he holds their bags because Asuma is actually the worst to go shopping with where as Kakashi just doesn’t care to complain and at least theyMre having fun. Teaching Hinata how to do her make up when she shows an interest because Kurenai wears minimule make up, and prefers to help Hinata with her hair.

Being the one to suggest puberty blockers to Kiba when he complains about his firdt menstrule cycle, because while it’s not something he chose for himself it is something he looked at when he was younger and something Lee chose to go with.

Making sure that Choji, Shino and Sai know that cloths arn’t genered no matter what anyone says and that they can wear whatever they damn well please and look as stunning as they want to in whatever they like

Charlie is a trans boy who comes out at 13. Socially transitioning at Hogwarts is hard. There's A LOT of letters back & forth with home as Molly & Arthur try to support him, and he tries to keep going and make it through the year. It gets easier as time goes on, fortunately. The twins know what Charlie went through, so when they meet trans boy Lee on the train to Hogwarts, they IMMEDIATELY glom onto him as his protectors, which turns into a beautiful friendship. Charlie's never been prouder.
