The raised fist symbol has been used by oppressed groups from all over the world for over a century. It started with The Industrial Workers of the World in Chicago, then was used during the Spanish Civil War, followed by Mexico and France to highlight many different cultural issues. Then it made its way back to the States in the form of student unions before being used by the Black Power movement, the feminist movement, and a number of other organisations worldwide. When I made these pins I wanted to use a symbol that was recognisable, iconic, and stood for something. I wanted people who were part of the LGBT community to have a symbol they could wear to show their pride and resistance, so there really was no doubt in my mind that the raised fist was that symbol. I started with the trans flag pin way back in 2017 and have continued to add from there, with no plans to stop any time soon!
