Hey everyone !
This pride month, let's support each other. Do you know any small trans artist or are you one yourself ? Share their/your work !
First, I'd like everyone to listen to my friend's first EP, Shades of Blue ! She even made a clip for her song "Play me".
You can find everything here :
mon premier EP, disponible sur toutes les plateformes <3
Then you should absolutly follow @gor3sigil , it is a writer, a zine-maker and a poet. A few exemple of its work :
I had a lot of difficulties to chose what to show you because of how much of its work resonate with me. Go read everything pls.
And if you speak french, you can follow @flemme_detre_cis on instagram, they're an illustrator and writter, educating and sharing their experience about transidentity and queerness :
Translated text of the first drawing : "Personnaly, the only two things I was certain of, at the start of my transition, was that I wasn't a gal and I needed a top-surgery. Period"
Translated text of the second drawing : "It would be his turn to be afraid"
And finally, I guess there's me ? I make "propaganda" posters to explore and spread love of transmasculinity through forcemasc. You can find everything with #forcemasc poster (I don't have anymore space to add pics in this post, sorry lol)
everyone should listen to i don't forgive you right NOW!!! it is my trans-run indie musical project which i'm putting a lot of love and introspection into. it currently has a tally hall cover track out and im working on a concept ep to fully debut the alias.
i started it a few days ago following glass beach's dissolution, which had really bummed me out, but i decided to give writing original music a shot as well, and so that's what i'm producing right now. for now, i advise you to listen to The Trap.
:-)
Being both a transgender man and a singer creates conflict. Starting hormone replacement therapy lowers the voice and may damage singing abi
If you are transmasculine and are unsure about HRT because you're scared of your voice changing, especially if you're a singer/performer or aspiring to become one, I HUGELY recommend this documentary called "Down There The Seafolk Live" by Ro Greengrass and Maddy James.
It follows Ro, Terrel, August and Gabriel, 4 transmasc performers, and their relationship with their voices and their stage persona. It's beautifully filmed, incredibly hopeful and full of joy, while talking about the struggles that comes with undergoing such dramatic changes.
As a singer myself, I struggled a LOT with the loss of parts of my vocal range, and it made me wait longer than I wanted to start T because it was so hard to find singing voice timelines, and people on the internet were like "yeah I can't sing anymore after taking T" and it scared the shit out of me.
To talk a bit about my own experience going from a high soprano voice to a tenor/borderline baritone: you won't LOSE your singing abilities. The first year is going to be rough because you're going to have a whole new instrument, your voice dropping actively will make it hard to manage sometimes, and you'll need a shit ton of patience. But I promise you, it's temporary. And gosh, I absolutely adore my new voice, I love how singing makes my whole chest shake, I love being able to reach the lowest note I never reached before. I love the perspectives it opened for me.
To quote Ro from the documentary:
"There's nothing there about transition singing voices and we need to create that content because we need to know that it's gonna be okay !"
to post singing videos or to not post singing videos
While we're on the topic of transgender vocaloid songs, I can't believe I never posted my Villain cover here
I used DemonDice's English lyrics, and after a few years of T, I was able to sing it a whole octave down! ♪ヽ(´▽`)/
Happy Trans Music Tuesday! Today’s featured artist is Liniker (she/her), a Black Brazilian singer-songwriter. Her music, solo and with her band Liniker e os Caramelows, mixes elements of soul, jazz, reggae, samba, and more. She made history in 2022 for being the first trans artist to win a Latin Grammy, with her win for Best MPB Album (Música Popular Brasileira). Here’s a beautiful performance of her song “Presente”:
