They passed the new trans law in Finland, allowing adult trans people to change their legal gender without having to provide lengthy documentation from doctors.
It passed.
I am so fucking happy.
I know people who've been waiting for years to get their gender recognized by a doctor to get treatments.
I can't believe it. Really can't.

for DECADES finnish trans ppl have had to endure years of gatekeeping and obstacle courses in order to get hormone treatments, gender affirming surgery and corrected legal documents.
the finnish trans-policlinic has been infamously traumatizing to wade through, as their policies are (were) incredibly dated and transphobic, demanding archaic, heteronormative gender conformity in every facet of a trans person's life in order to approve them for life-saving transition services. not to mention the fact that it would take months and months between appointments, all in all having to suffer many years of gender dysphoria in the face of a transphobic institution.
now, after years of fervent activism and several previous disappointments in parliament, they finally accepted the new trans law proposition, which would remove the obstacle course, and in its place implement a simple written application. they will also undo the previous law demanding sterilization as part of the trans-policlinic process.

siis se on aivan perseestä että suomen translaki vaatii lisääntymiskyvyttömyyttä juridisen sukupuolen korjaamista varten, mutta kuin moni oikeesti tietää mitä se käytännössä tarkottaa?
oon törmänny niin moneen varsinkin cis-ihmiseen joka luulee et “pakkosterilisaatio” meinaa sitä et juridista sukupuolta ei vahvisteta jos ei oo munasarjat poistettu tms. vaik nykyää se lisääntymiskyvyttömyys voi meinaa sitä et on täytyny olla hormonihoidot jonki aikaa, ja ne voi koska vaan pysäyttää ja hommaa biologisia lapsia jos haluaa. niinko joo, on perseestä et hormonihoidot on vaatimus sukupuolen juridiselle korjaukselle, mutta ehkä ei kannata pelotella transihmisiä (varsinkin nuoria) tommottella
