Ace ran with the flower in his hands without looking back. He had risked his ass to steal the plant that could save his brother from the deadly curse of the devil's fruit and had to give it to him no matter the cost.
After all, he did not expect to be alive for long when he had stolen the lily of the resurrection from the garden of the continent's most powerful and dangerous wizards.
The curse of the devil's fruit was a plague running through the fruit. On the outside, she could look completely healthy, but as soon as the first bite occurred, they realized that her interior was full of black spirals, a sign of illness. Anyone who ate one of those fruits would die if they did not receive the antidote that was prepared with those magic flowers.
He used his power inherited from his mother, which allowed him to become any animal or creature that could touch ( he could not imitate other humans), to sneak into the castle gardens without being seen and to steal the miserable flower from the thousands which bloomed all over the place and run off with it, turned into a little black cat.
He had been running for days. He would not stop and give them the opportunity to catch him without first giving the flower to his brother who dying at home because of fever.
He kept his aura to a minimum to lessen the chances of finding him ahead of time. He was realistic, he could not escape.
Not against the most powerful magicians. They would catch him eventually.
But he could make some time before then.
Ace jumped on the window of his house, he dropping down exhausted. Luffy was sweating, his face red and pain-filled. Makino was wiping the boy's sweat and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Ace at the window. The spirals had grown all over Luffy's uncovered skin.
"Take it ..." Ace whispered with the last blink of his energy, he did not even have the strength to return to his human form.
Makino hastened to take the lily. She gently started to remove all the petals. She took the teapot full of boiling water and filled a cup, dropping the petals into the cup that immediately dye the water a bright blue.
For Ace the color of hope.
They manage to make Luffy drink the potion, immediately his cheeks are no longer exaggeratedly red, he stops sweating and little by little the spirals on his body disappear to leave him in a normal state.
Ace purrs with happiness and decides it's a good time to faint from exhaustion.

When he wakes up, he realizes that he is not in his house and that he is still in his cat form. Luffy is missing, and he cannot smell Makino. Examining the place where he sleeps, Ace realizes that he rest on a red velvet pillow in the middle of an unfamiliar bed.
Okay, this gives a very bad feeling to the feline.
He gets up slowly and looks around.
There are no windows in the room, so turning into a bird and flying would not do any good. He is completely terrified and refuses to take his human form because he thinks he knows what is happening.
The door opens and the male is ready for anything. A blond man with a partly shaved head enters, his blue eyes appear to be half asleep, but he has a relaxed smile on his face. He is followed by another blonde with wavy hair, his face with a burn scar on his left eye. Both wear robes embroidered with gold, in different shades of blue and approach the bed, extending their hands to take the helpless kitten.
Ace does the most naturally thing.
Try to escape.
A few rays of light, like threads of gold, become entangled in his little legs and trip him, wrapping around his body quickly immobilizing him.
Soon he lays helplessly before the two wizard, who had conjure up a small spell, to prevent him from acquiring his larger forms (an elephant, bear, tiger, etc.). Ace shakes against the spell, but it is useless, he is too entangled in magic to do anything else.
Powerful magic, you can say.
“ To tell you the truth, I never thought that our thief was a demonic shapeshifter”. the wizard with part of the shaved head speaks, a small smile pulling on his lips. Holding Ace as if it were a small child in his arms “they are very rare to find, it is that not right, Sabo, dear?”
"Yes Marco, I agree ... where did you take our magic flower? Did your teacher ask you to steal it from us?” Sabo questions the cat. “They are very valuable, little one. They are watered with our own blood and magic, we cannot let anyone have them.”
“Your master is in serious, serious trouble. So where is it?” Marco continues, holding the cat a little bit tighter.
"If you're a good boy and you tell us, we'll probably let you go." The wicked smiles on the wizards' faces told him that is not true ... maybe they thought he wasn’t too smart? Why else would they not be trying to lie to him? Their malicious intentions could be seen for miles away.
They put a necklace of red pearls around Ace’s necks, who is unable to resist, glistening with some kind of spell. The shapeshifter feels the effects instantly.
“This will allow you to speak and also will not let you tell us lies ... now –“ Their faces’ expressions became more serious “-where is our magic flower, kitten?”
No no no no!
Ace shakes and tries to defend himself from the magic, but feels as if his voice wants to come out of him without his permission. He feels it at the back of his throat, fighting against his silence.
He is terrified.
I didn’t want to involve Luffy in this!
“I ...” Ace says, trying to resist “I gave it ... ah! No!”
"Who did you give it to, kitten?" Your master?” Marco’s eyes were dark and frighteningly cold. “ Talk little one.”
Ace tried to resist one last time, tried to fight against the command but it doesn’t work. The words fall out of his tiny mouth much to his horror.
“N-no, I have no master ... my brother ... I gave it to my brother to drink!”
“Brother? You have a brother?” That seemed to interest the two magician’s very much “ another shapeshifter?”
“N-no, he’s not a shapeshifter”.
“What is he then?” Sabo asks head tilted in interest.
“He’s a little human boy ... please don’t hurt him ...” The kitten whispers as the two mages blink. Ace shrinks into himself, scared out of his mind for his baby brother. Luffy is only a child, not even a wizard, he could not fight these two off if they went after him. Luffy wouldn’t have stolen that flower. But he’d had been terribly sick, time running out quickly and Ace had not seen any other solution.
A calloused hand settled into his black fur caressing it gently. Despite his nerves, the magic that comes out of the hand was relaxing and tickled his skin, and even against his will found himself purring in the caresses.
“A small human. Probably a protégé” Sabo concluded.
Magic or demonic creatures are very loyal to their benefactors. That's why the magicians love them so much.
"So you're not bound to any master?" Marco said eagerly, and Ace stopped his purring.
"It's great news," Sabo agreed. “you would be very useful to us if you become our familiar…”
No.
No!
"Don’t do it! Let me go! I want to go back with my brother!”
"You stole our flower, our magic, no? Then it is only right that you pay for it.”
An obsidian dagger came out of one of the wizards' jackets and the shift shifter was scared. Are they going to stab him? Kill him and steal his magic?
Instead, both wizards cut their index fingers to remove some blood. They hold Ace's muzzle open forcefully and dropped a bit of blood into his mouth at the same time. Ace feels something tangle around him, pulling him in, wrapping him quickly. He cannot be contained any longer.
He screams, returning to his human form and feels a pair of tattoos growing on his back, indicating that he is now the familiar of these two strange wizards.
When the ritual ends, Ace is tired, with many tremors running through his weakened body, and he can see the wizards smiling, surprised and pleased.
They kindly caress Ace's head.
“Marco ... it's so incredible! ... I've never seen anything like it! A shapeshifter with humanity ?! Wonderful!” Sabo cheered
“We must thank the gods later. They sent us an incredible gift”
“We’ll take great care of you! We promise!”
