I really hate it when people act like transandrophobia/anti transmasculinity is a “chronically online problem” and irl queer spaces (or the general public) don’t have major problems with treating us that way in real life at all. Maybe for some people that is actually the case and they’ve just been lucky enough not to experience a lot of anti-transmasculine attitudes/words/behaviors in real life, but I literally only post about ATM related stuff so often because I face so much ATM in real life, in and outside of queer spaces.
It’s just as bad in real life, if not worse, than it is online- even though I will say people online are generally more open/overt about their bigotry, whereas in real life it’s a lot of the time more covert, I think because people are more afraid of the consequences of sharing their opinions with their whole chest in real life as opposed to online (but not necessarily, it depends on context).
And like… y’all do realize that the people who post stuff like “bomb that kills all tboys” or “testosterone HRT makes transmascs become violent and predatory”, are a lot of the time real people who don’t exclusively exist on the internet, and sometimes even involve themselves in real life queer spaces, right?
I see a lot of people say generally transandrophobic things that are hurtful to people like myself online, and I see a lot of other transmasc people get personally targeted online, but just in my own experience, the vast majority of times I’ve ever been personally targeted by transandrophobia were in real life, despite the fact that I talk about the topic of ATM/transandrophobia online WAY more than I ever bring it up in real life- mostly because online I feel comfortable enough to do so, whereas in real life I only really feel safe bringing up the topic with my partner and occasionally close/long time friends.
Idk, I just wish people would treat ATM like the serious and pervasive issue that it is instead of dismissing it as silly internet drama that doesn’t actually matter or have real life implications.
