Design's Dichotomy: Prospect or Refuge. The Pessimist vs The Optimist. Aren't we all these two characters? The Pessimist: narrowing #uncertainties. The Optimist "widening #possibilities. Each has a valuable role to play along life's #pathway. A single #travelpath leads, at least, two ways. The Question of Choice, which direction to take?Within each of us there's an inner battle between, at least, two voices / two spirits - as our #conscience #consciousness #debates the way before us. We must keep moving. This sort of decision we designers face every day - especially when solving project-based problems. It's positively scary at times. A healthy amount of Pessimist keeps us out of harm's way. Conversely A healthy amount of Optimist keeps pushing us to boldly push forward, take risks: "Go for it!" We ALL face this constant #dialogue in our lives - facing personal #challenges - esp. when losing something significant. I created this today in memory of Diana's story & my own personal story 20 years ago: I don't even remember if it was a bright sunny late summer day. All I remember was it was the darkest of days as our 'Queen of Hearts' ♥️ Princess Diana "succumbed to her injuries" (1st BBC reports from 🇬🇧& 🇫🇷 came in) ... we were told she was taken away. It felt so dark. The world 🌎 mourned. I chose from that day forward to be inspired by her vs being crushed by life's cruelty way of abruptly taking her without warning. Afterwards a funeral for a significant dearly departed FireChief/Firefighter/friend/extended family member who'd passed away - his death inspired a remarkable quote: "Each day we pull away on the Measuring Tape of Life, each day, inch by inch, we pull away, never quite sure how much left we've got remaining. Why we have to "make each day count, like it's the last." We can miss our loved ones #dearlydeparted - but at some point we must keep #movingon. They wouldn't want us to dwell in their shadow - rather - we carry on in their #footsteps, forging a path forward in memory. Respect the #choice you make - just consider the #options.
