the fifth turtle of spring or i know this is some no good dirty mumblthropomorphizing, but when i look in their eyes, they look disappointed that we all are still here for yet another spring. they won't raise beaks in violence against us, and they will share kind, sad tales about us when we are gone, but they won't miss us. i imagine them returning to their burrows and sharing the bad news with their fellows and preaching patience with their quiet eyes. patience is more than we have any right to expect, and i am glad for the chance to see them again even if they may be conflicted about seeing me

TRDL 2017 No. 72 - KOM Girl [Third Rail Thrills]

This entry in the Third Rail Thrills series was done for a client that I met through the AIDS Lifecycle charity ride from SF to LA some years back. He's a monster climber, so the pinup girl theme is the King of the Mountains polka-dot jersey motif. I've seen the vinyl on his bike, and it looks great!

I hesitate to admit it, but I haven't yet seen Cowboy Bebop. I've drawn a few of the characters in the past as private commissions but devoid of context. This piece was a bit challenging because the tunic/shorts are loose fitting which is a strange contrast with the rest of the look. Good challenge, mind you...

Looking back on this character, the space native american situation is a little on the nose, but though I was a Marvel kid, I thought this LoSH hero was a neat design and fun to draw. I mean, wings are NEVER "fun" fun, but it was a cool composition. I think if I were to do it again, I'd swap out the bird for a space starfish or whatever. Anyway, there we are!

TRDL 2018 Series No. 7 - Black Canary [3 Birds]

This is the second Black Canary piece to be completed and available as a print, another one that was started earlier but completed this year. I was inspired by a more action-oriented redesign of Dinah Lance's classic fishnets and bodice look, doing away with the floppy boots and 80s jacket. My soft redesign just tweaked how the yellow is incorporated. Again, those fishnets are tough.
