In light of the EU Referendum results this week, and the following increase in racist and xenophobic attacks, it’s been a difficult few days for us living on the island of the United Kingdom, who dedicate our lives to a peaceful union with the rest of humanity. I am continuously trying to remind myself that this hatred is not a direct result of people’s opinions, but of a chaotic and messy campaign which has certainly pulled on the hearts and emotions of British citizens, whichever way they voted. So I wanted to share some of the more beautiful sides to Europe, and beautiful it is. The United Kingdom is a stunning place, but it is only stunning as a part of a larger piece of artwork. It’s neighbours, despite being separated by seas and borders, are a part of what makes us so great. And despite this uniformed ‘exit’ from the EU which has been voted for, I still regard myself to be wholly European at heart, and will never cease to extend my love to my fellow neighbours, be they German, Polish, or positively Martian!
This shot was taken on my recent honeymoon to Crete, and it reminds me of a peaceful time. I hope and pray that we can restore a level of balance and unity in this country that people brand so ‘great’. I hope we can learn to re-unite ourselves and help our fellow EU citizens feel at ease at such a difficult and deeply distressing time for them. Fellow humans, no matter your skin colour, race, religion, background, faith or creed, you are ALWAYS welcome in this country with open arms. Pay no attention to a government that lies for it’s own gain. Listen to our hearts, and listen to the people say how much we love you and value your contribution. I’m so sorry we’re burning bridges, but know that this is not as a direct result of hurting others, but as an indirect result of confusion and politics gone mad. You will always be loved and welcomed with open arms into my home, because our home is your home.
