Would you do headcanons for Good Chase Young ( in ancient times) meeting and taking in a street child?
Okay hold on the potential for angst-
There was a time where Chase Young was kind. He was a warrior who stood tall alongside others, fighting forces of Heylin to keep the balance and the peace. Ambition may have blinded him but it was that ambition to protect that led him to becoming strong.
And he sees this child - cold and hungry and ambitious to live despite the broken circumstances - and takes them in. Like recognizes like; how could he see the fire of will, the will to survive and live and rise, and not reach his hand out to help?
And so the child has a family and Chase has a child, an apprentice under his wing.
In Chase, the child finds a father-figure, easy-going but dedicated to a higher cause. Inexperience leads him to moments where he is unsure, Chase keeps moving forward; his dedication is never broken. Few are those who are more dedicated and kind than him.
The revelations are not limited to the child. In time Chase finds himself becoming a father to this child. Warrior monks are not supposed to be attached, but when one raises and nurtures a young soul, to see them blossom brings a pride akin to that of a father's. And in this pride Chase finds a new motivation for his ambitions.
Ambition for strength to protect can easily be twisted into ambition for power, but when that ambition is powered by love and the desire to protect loved ones, there are no warning signs. Everything feels justified. Over-training is understandable, he must be prepared to keep enemies away from his family. His methods are quicker, crueler- efficient, to limit the danger; mercy leaves too much room for a return strike.
But it's for love. Caring, prideful, unconditional love that is blind to the rest of the world.
When he is offered the soup, this Chase does not hesitate. He does not wait or weigh his options. He takes it. Wholeheartedly, he consumes it whole, leaving not a drop of it behind. The power that thrums in his head and throughout his body was worth every sip. No one would dare touch the family of a monster ruler, no one would dare to consider it.
He never considered the possibility of his child, his kin, being the one to betray his sacrifice by leaving.
It broke him. Until betrayal warped into a new goal.
Love still motivates his ambitions but it has fractured into something new, something twisted and dark. Chase Young will protect his child. He will be the strongest throughout the realms, he will rule over the realms. And when the world is brought to its knees, suffering at his hands, his child will never be able to escape his protection ever again.
