Ancient weapons/related headcanons
All the ancient/special weapons in the series, as well as the warp star, are sentient! Not all of them readily show it, either because they can't easily do so, or because they don't want to risk messing up fate by making it known they're sentient. Best to avoid accidentally weirding out the chosen hero; it'd be a bit of an issue if they didn't like the idea of vanquishing some Great Evil because the weapon required to do so talked to them once & made wielding them uncomfortable.
Galaxia is the one most used to interacting with her wielders, Meta Knight being the one she is closest to. She's genderfluid and currently uses she/they pronouns, though she has used he/they in the past. Due to the fact that she communicates telepathically with whoever she's talking to, she has the benefit of being able to change her voice to however she wants to sound.
Her personality and mental aspects change based on who's using her, though that's had a few adverse effects on her. She's gotten somewhat anxious over the years, as should be expected of someone who's lost many of those closest to them. Meta wasn't the first person she chose to wield her, after all. However, he is the one she's gotten closest to, mostly because he's sorta emotionally latched on to her himself; since she isn't mortal she is someone he doesn't have to fear losing.
When it comes to Kirby, she takes on a more motherly persona, though a somewhat harsh one in the way Meta is when being fatherly to him. Since he's one of the few of her chosen ones that she met and picked at a young age, she does her best to "raise" him in a way that will benefit them both in the future. However this has led to some interesting conflicts in terms of Galaxia not being the only sentient ancient weapon that chose Kirby.
The Triple Star is similar to Galaxia in that they tend to change personalities based on their user, however they've "grown up" in a very different environment. They're nonbinary, very talkative to their wielder, and somewhat mischievous. What can you expect, they've not really been able to choose theirs in the way Galaxia has, and have mostly been used by thieves like Daroach, thanks to having been stolen a long time ago & basically having a life of getting stolen, sold, stolen again, lost and found, rinse and repeat.
By now they've taken on a personality less than fitting for a holy weapon, being somewhat sarcastic and well versed in street smarts. Think of their alignment as chaotic good to neutral. They do like to get involved in shenanigans from time to time, usually helping their wielder to get out unscathed. They'd definitely use "hey I helped beat the ruler of the Underworld I pulled my weight already" as an excuse for their morally ambiguous decisions.
To Kirby, they're like a semi-bad influence but not intentionally. Like the fun parent to Galaxia's serious parent attitude. They want the best for him, they just take a different approach. Triple Star does the heavy lifting and some defending- which you can see in Squeak Squad with the 3 stars orbiting Kirby- and basically lets him do whatever. No training or strategizing, just "Ok Kirb go nuts, I wanna see some action and you wanna fight evil, let's go!"
Luckily, they're at least decent enough to keep their language clean around him. Same can't be said for Daroach. Imagine your own weapon calling you a bastard.
To further complicate things for Kirby, he's also been chosen by the Master sword, who identifies as female. She's only had a few previous wielders, but managed to learn of the existence of the other legendary Master Sword wielded by some reincarnating guy called Link. To put it lightly, she's jealous and wants to prove she's The Better Master Sword™, and does so by always giving her all even when she really doesn't need to.
She's somewhat intense and a bit stubborn when she does decide to speak up, generally wanting to be in the leadership position. Kirby is Kirby and wants to be friends with her whenever he uses her, but can't help but be somewhat intimidated by her focus on being strong & a very effective weapon. She isn't interested in being friends with Kirby, but more or less just chose him because he's very powerful and would be a good wielder.
On the opposite side of the spectrum are the Rainbow Sword and Love-Love stick, who are pretty carefree as long as there's not something currently threatening the universe. Rainbow is genderfluid like Galaxia but tends to stay on the more masculine side, preferring he/they pronouns. However, he doesn't mind people he trusts using other pronouns for him on occasion. Love currently identifies as male but is questioning being nonbinary.
They do their best to live up to their holy weapon status, though since they're only wielded when Suddenly Dark Matter that's kind of difficult. They both chose Kirby because he's got Good Boy Energy and they're aware that not all Dark Matters are pure evil. Why be violent when you can use the power of love and friendship? That's what they're made to channel. However now they just chill out on Ripple Star on adjacent pedestals in the castle, being chill & gay & valid.
The Starship and Warpstar are very different from the others in that they are much more childlike. This is because both of them gained sentience thanks to contact with Kirby and the resulting change in their own magic. Neither of them can speak, but they're both somewhat protective of Kirby and want to be friends with him. The Starship is a bit more introverted due to having less social interaction with anyone, while the warpstar has openly tried to "play with" and entertain Kirby in some situations.
The Warpstar is also related to the Star Rod, sort of, in that the Warpstar is kind of like a baby Star Rod but not really.
The Star Rod doesn't identify as anything yet, except maybe as a pseudo-grandma. They're pretty peaceful and prefer not to be super involved in most things, and are almost perpetually tired. They care about Kirby & want to see him grow up strong while remaining the good boy he always has been.
They can't communicate directly, but instead have to do so through dreams. This makes them the only one of the weapons capable of communicating with almost anyone, even those they haven't met. Of course that doesn't mean they're always going to act perfect to everyone; you think those weird dreams people don't understand happen on accident? A legendary weapon has to entertain themselves somehow.
The last weapon to have chosen Kirby is the Power Paintbrush, who is nonbinary like Triple Star. They're not focused on being a weapon but much prefer being used to make art. If needed in combat situations they prefer being used in a defensive way, hence why the most they do in CC is just stun opponents. They like Kirby because he's friendly and has the imagination that comes with most children, while also being intelligent enough to use them to their full potential.
They don't ever speak, but share their feelings via emotions and the appearance of their paint. Hue helps show the emotion, saturation dictates the intensity, and brightness dictates wether it's positive or negative. For example, when they're happy they'll have more bright blue in their paint, when sad they may have a dull purple, dull green can mean they were startled vs bright green being pleasantly surprised.
Kirby doesn't understand that, he just knows there's pretty colors and some of them seem to match up with his feelings.
