my poppy redesign! explanations below!!

I kept her Movie 1 version to be greener tones and lighter pastels instead of vibrancy. filter makes her eyes look purple my bad that wasn't the intention. Her hair is straight like in the movie, but I actually tried to make it look slightly damaged since there's some lines she says that imply she straightens it and adds a crazy amount of hair products to it so it's not curly. I think if we were to look at world tour in a cool way, (or maybe after they're attacked in movie 1) Poppy could get her hair cut. Like completely. Homegirls hair in this concept would be dead/damaged as hell there is no saving it so having a scene where it's cut would be crucial for the final redesign on the right. I think barb would maybe cut it and not see the issue with it (since rock trolls have shorter hairs and it doesn't look like they have the same control over it) especially if poppy pulled the "strangling through the cage" method she does in the first movie. It'd allow her hair to grow back happier and healthier. I think her Movie 1 design would mostly be basic. Basic outfit that fits in with the rest of the town, straight hair. Kind of to add to the idea that not only does she have a sort of toxic happiness about her, but also she keeps trying to be someone she isn't. We know Poppy has a lot of insecurities about her, but instead of facing them and coping with them in a healthy manner she shoves them down and tries to "fix" what she perceives to be the problem, even if it hurts everyone around her. Especially with Creek sort of enabling her worst tendencies and thoughts, I don't think she'd actually be...herself, i guess, in movie 1. just how she thinks shes "supposed" to be. Movie 2 she'd be getting closer. Her hair would be a bit of a lost cause, but I think it'd be a time period where she'd get closer, but not quite, to experimenting with her style/looks more. But the lesson she learns in the movie, "our differences are what makes us special, and it's wrong to erase it or pretend it doesn't exist," would probably give her the push she needs in the timeframe between Movie 2 and 3 to try to be herself, or learn how to be herself. Especially if her hair is cut in this take of events. Her final design is more blue, I gave her blue eyes cause I didn't understand the "your eyes are pools so deep im afraid i'll get lost" or something that Branch says even though her eyes are..pink. Also it doesn't provide much contrast with..everything else. I added freckles to show she's more AUTHENTICALLY happy, and healthier as well, so her freckles actually glow. and she gains more. also i just like freckles. Her hairs curlier as well and she embraces it, which would make the Viva reunion scene look sweeter since they'd look similar, and poppy would have another person to help her figure out how to help her hair flourish. And by proxy Branch bc i hc him as having curly hair as well. I think his hair would be SO fucked up and damaged since he was practically an orphan- maybe his gets cut in the first film since he's put up more of a fight, and poppy gets hers cut in the 2nd movie? idkidk. trolls rewrite on the way TRUST (joking i sadly don't write fanfiction. i wish but i don't want to look back on it and cringe) OH and the flower on her crown in the final redesign is a forget-me-not. no significance, they're just my favorite flowers and the flowers she has in the first movie kind of look like them. AND HER DRESS IS POOFY SO IF YOU WERE TO LOOK AT HER FROM ABOVE SHE'D BE SHAPED LIKE A FLOWER I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE CUTE!!!

JOHN DORY & POPPY REDESIGN !

Since Poppy is a queen and she's Bridget's maid of honor, pretty sure Poppy would pick out something more designer and to make it stand out that she's the queen, but she doesn't wanna stand out too much. I just recolored her headdress and gave her beads and pins with raindrop earrings and a bow, with a cape and poofy sleeves and a much more longer and bigger cloud like skirt. I also gave her more voluminous hair with streaks of blue, purple and yellow that matches her fit and makeup !

for John Dory, it's just pretty simple, i didn't add much since I didn't know how to redesign him, so I just gave him voluminous hair with a hint of gray since I hc that he's old or smth or maybe it's just from stress. And I gave him facial hair so it stands out. I recolored his goggles and added a few details to the fur + scars since he probably travelled far away and earned these from getting hurt maybe. I gave him a pocket watch cuz why not aaanddd a heart and a steampunk sticker on his jacket !

Info on Branch typed:

I wanted to give his hair some extra flare, but I just realized he looks like Gohan (which is weird because I've seen maybe 1–2 episodes of Dragon Ball)

Gave him some earrings! The ones on his lobes are post the first movie and the one on top is post TWT

Instead of the usual wrinkles, I gave him eye bags and made sure to darken them (I didn't want to use a lot of wrinkles on him, so no crow's feet)

Scars that I try to keep consistent and craft stories for each one.

While I do have Branch keep the vest, his shorts are so patchy, I would rather use them as a rag. So instead, Satin and Chenille gave him some new pants that fit his practical/nature vibe, and I'll occasionally throw a shirt on him either for fun or to spruce him up.

Info on Poppy typed:

Curly hair meant to be similar to Viva's! As far as I'm concerned, Poppy has been straightening her hair for years and only grew out of the habit in her adulthood.

I use a somewhat consistent shape for the crown, inspired by her World Tour one, and add some extra designs depending on her outfit.

When I do draw her timeline wise, I give her longer bangs during the first film, she cut them around the 2nd film, and the bangs are regrowing by the third. Who says you can't cut your bangs after a traumatic event, right?

While it's understandable that they want to keep a design simple for a TV show or movie, I think Poppy is the type of person to enjoy fun accessories!

I gave her some extra freckles on her shoulders, thighs, and a few on her back.

I also love giving Poppy a variety of outfits! They're predominantly inspired by fairies, coquette aesthetic, fantasy woodland critters, DIY fashion, a bit of Mori fashion, and bright sparkly pieces.

I've also done my best to make Poppy consistently taller than Branch, if I've drawn otherwise, she's either not standing up straight, or it's a flub on my end :joy:

Overall, this is my personal taste for designing them, I do occasionally give them tails because it highlights their tree living, fantasy creature vibes, but at the end of the day everyone has their own interpretation. (They also have retractable claws but that's going to be on a post about how I redraw the genres)
