Greed and corruption fuels these decisions from country leaders. Won’t they be surprised when their KARMA comes home to roost, sooner than they think. @forestelephantfoundation ・・・ Botswana has recently lifted the ban on elephant hunting saying the move was justified by an increase in population as its impact on farmers’ livelihoods. Governments keep saying that hunting is justifiable to reduce over population of elephants but the reality is that fewer than 450,000 elephants remain according to the Great Elephant Census of 2016, and well down from the 3 to 5 million less than 100 years ago. Less than 100,000 of these elephants are forest elephants. In Africa there is one elephant per 20 000 people. While the human population is rapidly increasing, elephant numbers are plummeting. There are alternative conservation measures that can be implemented to minimise human wildlife conflict rather than killing elephants and promoting wildlife trade. We keep causing habitat loss and then we say there are too many elephants? Very shocking and disappointing decision by #Botswana————————————————————#conservation #elephants #endangered #forestelephants #trophyhunting #conservation #cruel #archaic #JoinTheHerd #elephant #forest #Africa #southafrica #namibia #zimbabwe #antipoaching #endextinction #banwildlifetrade #cites #iucn ———————————————————— PC: Martyn Colbeck #keepfightingforelephants #bekindtoelephants https://www.instagram.com/p/ByLny7LA-9B/?igshid=kxh343lcj7mb

From ABC News - “The Namibia Press Agency said the hunter, identified as 46-year-old Jose Monzalvez, was killed on Saturday afternoon in a private wildlife area 70 kilometers (43 miles) northwest of the small town of Kalkfeld. The agency said Monzalvez, who worked for an oil company, was with another Argentine and three Namibians when he was killed. It says one of the elephants charged before the group was able to find a spot to aim and shoot. The report says Monzalvez had a hunting permit with him…” Here’s an article that disputes the myth of trophy hunting as conservation: https://www.saveafricananimals.org/attachments/article/136/The_%20Myth_of_Trophy_Hunting_as_Conservation.pdf #News #Elephant #TrophyHunting #TrophyHunterKilledByElephant #EndangeredSpecies https://www.instagram.com/p/Bmg93wIHdE0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=fqcm7cwy024u

The so-called “ethics” of trophy hunting have been debated for years, and in that time the hunters themselves have made some incredibly bold claims: "Money from hunting helps impoverished neighboring communities." "We hunters are the true conservationists; without us, these species would go extinct." And so on. Well, as a wildlife welfare and conservation group in a country where trophy hunting is not allowed, we have a very different take.
