Generate renunciation first, and then Bodhicitta Only after generating renunciation, will one think of how to save others from the mire or the house on fire. Without a true and strong aspiration to escape from samsara, how can one think of saving others? For a beginner Bodhisattva, it’s essential to first generate renunciation and then Bodhicitta. This sequence can’t be surpassed.

Here you see me rubbing the lemon shark affectionately, the same that anyone would do with their dog! Although many of the lemon sharks have never had this before, they are definitely sentient creatures like dogs and come back to their new human friends repeatedly to get more shark love...affection! I use this new trusting relationship to get close enough to remove their hooks, which I started in 2002 and have removed 100's of hooks so far.
