Oh shit there’s a new me at six album out today as well
Kinda of regret asking this because the internet for all it's wonders can be reductive in constructive debate but do you think that on debates on the 1619 project, the George Floyd protests, claims of a stolen election in spite of the fact that Democrats lost seats and failed to win a solid majority in the Senate that educated people are forgoing independent thought in favor of pseudo religions? I have seen too many smart people ignore facts that I feel like the only sane person in an asylum.
As I mentioned before, this is the end result of truth decay; there is no longer any objective truth and no trust or desire to establish one. It’s selectively pruned information shared in ideological bubbles free of criticism that allows each person to generate their own ideology, have it reinforced, elaborated, and fed back to them in a mutually supporting spiral. We create communities where fanaticism and devotion receives instant positive feedback, love-bombing in all the worst possible ways.
It’s cultish in its own way, and in ways even worse. Cults like to isolate prospective members, but the technology we’ve created allows us to isolate ourselves.
But don’t fool yourself, in some ways it has always been a problem. Plenty of educated people have fallen for lies in ages past.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Espionage
My goals are modest: to introduce you to the secret world of espionage so that you have a beter understanidng of what it is, what role it plays in international politics, and how it is carried out by people and technology in historical perspective.
Although America might be uniaue in the size of its intelligence apparatus, all spy agencies were seduced by the potnetial of secrets to solve problems and become caught up in a spy game obsessed with bureaucratic secrecy.

"The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist." [Hannah Arendt, in her 1951 book The Origins of Totalitarianism]
Two of the most monstrous regimes in human history (facism and Stalinist communism) came to power in the 20th century, and both were predicated on the violation and despoiling of truth, on the knowledge that cynicism, weariness and fear can make people susceptible to the lies and false promises of leaders bent on unconditional power.
The term 'truth decay' has joined the post-truth lexicon that includes 'fake news' and 'alternative facts'. Because fake news and lies are pumped out nowadays in such an endless stream, it has become impossible for most of us to separate fact from fiction/truth from lies. It is under such conditions that disorientation, fear, hate and cynicism thrives, as we dance to the tune of our sinister masters.
