song of achilles : let’s talk about thetis
okay so sure we all possibly hated her real bad throughout the story for hurting both our boys for her own selfish reasons right.
but her story hurt me real bad because she did nothing wrong except exist. the real villians, the real ones to be despised, must be the gods. imagine being a nymph minding your own business, vibing, and outta nowhere this man comes forces himself onto you, rapes you in the most painful way possible. all this bc the gods were bored.
no one can possibly imagine the pain and agony she went through. all she had in her mind at that point was how to get revenge on the gods for quite literally destroying her life for no god damn reason.
in the last few chapters you can quite literally hear her pain when reminiscing life with patroclus bc she never wanted to hurt her son but she wanted him to be greater than the gods and saw patroclus as a distraction from her motive to seek revenge. she even hid him when they were out to take achilles to war bc she didn’t want to risk losing him.
the ending was written in such a way that it looked like she redeemed herself of everything she did wrong when it was her who was wronged in the first place but its over looked as the story goes on.
but oh well, it was war. but personally, thetis’ story hurt me the 2nd most after patroclus.
