To those of you who say/imply we shouldn't have an issue with Valentine's say because it's for all forms of love, not just romantic:
That's not really the point. I don't dislike Valentine's Day because it symbolizes people's relationships. I'm happy for all those relationships! I'm happy you've got a day dedicated to the love you have for each other, platonic, romantic, familial, whatever! That's awesome!!
It's the amatonormativity that the day perpetuates.
Imagine you're allergic to flowers. And one day a year, everyone celebrates flowers in excessive amounts. You literally cannot go outside without some company shoving flowers in your face and telling you to buy them, you can't go to your relative's house because your aunt will throw a flower garland over your head. You can tell them you're allergic, but they'll always smile and say "oh, well that's okay!!! It doesn't have to be just flowers! You can enjoy trees as well!!!"
But that doesn't change the fact that you're still going to be surrounded by the very thing you're allergic too all day!!! It doesn't matter that you can also love the trees, because you're going to spend most of the day drowning in flowers and allergies! Because society is so hell bent on having flowers all over literally everything, including you!
That's why I don't like Valentine's day. Yes, I can enjoy it outside of romance. But it doesn't change the fact that the world is hell bent on drowning you in it.

[Start ID: A cropped screenshot of a Tumblr text post. The text reads,"I wish what was pointed out more is because of Caine’s repulsed aroace coding: almost all ships with him should be depicted as platonic or, at least, a form of queerplatonic. Plus more fanworks should be made/prioritized of the crew being non-dating platonic to Caine, in particular from aro and ace people themselves. But then you’ll have people claiming you’re queerphobic and 'policing', when all you’re asking is people to acknowledge his queer coding as an aroace man, like they would do if he was implied achillean or genderqueer"./. End ID.]
I have no idea why the original post won't show up in the tags.

I think there’s some allos we need to put queerplatonic relationships for fictional characters on the high shelf for. Idk
I’m kinda sick of characters that are all “I don’t want sex or romance or to be in a relationship like that I just love my friends and want to keep being friends without them moving on to care more about a romantic relationship” and then 90% of the fan content of that character is “HERE’S VERY EXPLICITLY AROACE CHARACTER IN A QPR!!!!” and treating it as just allo dating that’s acceptable for aroace characters
QPRs can be ‘romance lite’! But also I feel like there’s something really odd when a good chunk of the content I’m seeing for a very explicitly aroace character is just “let me force them into a romance lite monogamous relationship that is considered by the characters to be of higher importance than platonic friendship!! But it’s fine its the aroace version!!!”
Like. Hm. I’m putting QPRs for aroace characters on the high shelf until you make a QPR for non-aroace characters thats not just romance lite and understand it’s actual allonormative-breaking fluid truth. Then you can have it back for aroace characters when you’re not just using it for ‘acceptable’ erasure
my arospec experience is correcting ppl that I'm not dating my friends and them asking how (???) and me explaining the concept of doing what feels good ig???
it’s crazy, right????

“… would he ever accept that type of love…?”
saw someone respond to people being mad at valentines with 'can't you have a little joy' yeah no, how am i supposed to have joy when essentially everyone is rubbing in my face that i am abnormal to them for not being interested in a romantic relationship
