Well, anon... you're not far off. I can see why you feel that way. They're both good-hearted people that are recklessly impulsive when it comes to danger. They CAN get along! but...

I feel the clashing side between the two of them are their views and personalities

Sure, they both faced a major traumatizing incident in their lives. But how they deal with it is what makes them different, and how they treat things is probably the main thing they'd argue with each other about.

To specify:

Ruby's a bright side, others-first, enthusiastic girl, while Pico is a cynical, cautious, blunt guy.

Though they've seen the worst in people, Ruby's still willing to see good in people. Pico, however, is warry of them. Only trusting those he knows but isn't completely off-guarded.

Ruby pushes her emotions aside and prioritizes others and what she thinks is important (which is BAD! because she's going to break anytime soon). Pico has gotten better at handling his emotions but will come off as rude and aggressive when feeling threatened

From there you can imagine what they'd argue/clash with. Actually, I don't think they'd have good impressions either because of that.

That being said, them getting along is NOT impossible. If there's one thing they agree on, it's that there's a line they won't cross. Meaning that if someone they face has no intention of backing out on doing harm, Pico and Ruby are the first ones to step in.

They're also both recklessly impulsive! both are willing to break rules placed on themselves if it means having to protect their friends (though it really depends on which rules are going to be broken).

They'd also probably do dumb fun things together! since Ruby's sometimes a dumbass while Pico, though proven smart, would just not think for the heck of it. Though I think he'd only start doing this with Ruby once he got more comfortable being around her

Fights and chaos aside, I think they'd bond over other things too!

Ruby's a huge weapons nerd, so she'd find Pico's guns interesting (probably consider it a traditional weapon too! assuming the traditional weapons in Remnant are old and current weapons in our world, judging from how "advanced" their technology are)

Though Pico doesn't socialize with people anymore, he would pull Ruby out of an awkward social situation anytime through intervention.

They'd share what they've read with each other. Share stories about their siblings, etc. There's a lot to go around

TLDR: Pico and Ruby won't get along at first, and their philosophies would clash. But they'll unite over fighting against evil and protecting their friends. If given time and Pico loosens up a bit, they'd be friends

Plus...

Being with each other will remind them of a certain family member
