Downtown Louisville looks like it’s preparing becoming a war zone. Today we’ll be finding out if the police officers in the shooting of Breonna Taylor will have charges pressed against them. 

I pray that Breonna Taylor gets justice but I also pray that the small and local businesses are safe tonight. 

If you are a protester please be safe and take care of yourselves.

If you are a police officer protect the protesters instead of endangering them.

y’all i cannot stress enough how important it is for white protesters to listen to the Black organizers and activists around them during protests.

i was at a small protest today in comparison to the ones happening in major cities, but the amount of white people i saw trying to rile up a crowd of majority Black and Brown people in a majority Black and Brown town was heartbreaking. the people trying to encourage others to violently confront police in riot gear. the white boys shooting bottle rockets and antagonizing police. the girl i saw on a busted out security van dressed like she was going to coachella and screaming while the rest of us were kneeling silently. the white people who co-opted a protest to loot small businesses in my city’s downtown area (and now local activists are trying to organize a clean up). all of this happening WHILE organizers were yelling at them to stop and keep it peaceful.

i am no way anti riot or pro cop. there is a time and place for anger to come out that way, especially when we are sitting on DECADES of pent up anger and aggression on behalf of Black communities being ravaged by police violence. however white people cannot and should not decide WHEN, WHERE, and HOW that happens. our place is to shield those who are most vulnerable, to leverage our power to protect those who have none. not to live out our punk rock anarchist wet dreams underneath the BLM banner. you only end up putting already vulnerable lives in the current system more at risk.

if you wont listen to your local organizers i hope you will listen to me at least. i could go on, but im tired. we need bodies. we need white allies, but the BLM movement does not deserve to be tainted by these actions.
