Zoomed in on a wasp from a distance and didn't realize until I downloaded it that it was holding a water drop. Turns out when you see wasps at bird baths or anywhere appearing to drink, sometimes they are gathering drops of water contained in bags of surface tension to carry them like balls to the hive for the larvae to drink.

This is Fives. He was the first wasp I’d ever held. As someone deathly afraid of wasps, the thing that made me fall in love was when I saw one yawn and I’ve been attached ever since.

I can’t find any studies on wasps yawning and was hoping you maybe had some wasp facts?

Yawning bug fact!? Okay actually, I spent an entire day the other week looking and searching up how and if bugs yawn. And there's like NO INFORMATION on it online. Like nadda.

The most I could find is an unreliable source online saying bees do it for thermoregulation. (Because insects don't breath like we do)

But my hypothesis is that insects (with prominent mandibles) stretch their jaws, like other animals, to alleviate stiffness and possible thermoregulation (i.e. it looks like yawning). However this hypothesis is very biased. First off I haven't observed enough insects to see if they actuall stretch their muscles And second off, there is such little information online about it, it's basically disproven until proven.

that is a moth. that is not a wasp. it's called myrmecopsis polistes and it's a MOTH. moral of the story? MIMICRY IS SO COOL.

Where I live it’s the beginning of the end for wasps and hornets. They’re getting desperate for water and food, so they’re getting …pushy.

Not aggressive. Just… rude.

Tink gets an occasional frozen applesauce cup because she thinks she should have popsicles but has no hands, and because repetitive licking helps her mood & her skin (she WILL obsess on licking a foot - hers, someone else’s). She likes to take her dogscicle outside and post up on the bench to enjoy her enrichment. However, sometimes she gets distracted. Usually by the boys’ dog Beetle.

The other day I walked out, moved her abandoned applesauce across the balcony, and sat on the bench. I got strafed by a fairly agitated pair of Things I Am Allergic To almost immediately.

Again, they aren’t being aggressive, just rude.

…I’m not sitting on that bench till it rains again.

yeah so this happened this morning.

I am fully convinced it is because I brought my (haunted) Art doll. Bro LOVES bringing me bad luck.
