Sorry if this has been asked before but would Rook approve of the RO’s had he been alive? Who would be his first choice as a love interest for his child?
Rook would totally approve, though wouldn't say that quite like, well, that, lol! He wouldn't want MC to think that they need his approval to do anything! (Though I imagine he'd have some opinions on Bobby if an ex...lol!)
His first choice would be whoever would make the MC happy! :D
(I've never really written anything for others to read like this before, so this might be clumsy... Hopefully it'll still be interesting!)

"Hello, this is a message for Miss Rebecca Ulrich."
Static crackles, a foreign voice addresses her in the typical bureaucratic tone usually employed by law enforcers.
"... This is a convocation from the official bureau of defense. You've been requested at the demands of your family's attorney, to contribute to the defendant's case in the court of law for their upcoming trial in a week."
The message is clear and concise.
What had she done this time..?
Rebecca had been able to power through most of her duties in the early day, delegating the tasks that would have required her presence to other qualified agents. Surely the agency could manage on their own for a single day.
After about an hour of commute and the typical waiting at the penitentiary, her waiting finally comes to an end as a clear voice inquires by the edge of a door frame.
"Miss Ulrich?"
There stood none other than Daryl Forbes, the family's attorney, someone Rebecca knew quite well from her early days.
A long time friend of Rook...
"Daryl, thank you for reaching out." She speaks with her signature composure and unprecedented elegance, her own personal way to gain control on any situation to face. "What happened?"
"Well, it's not good..." Mister Forbes admits plainly, opening a file and passing it to her elegantly gloved hands. Yet despite her assured tone and mannerism, a slight nervous tremor hides within the grasp of her fingers as he takes hold of the documents.
"There's been an incident and Ethan's held accountable for involuntary manslaughter. Assuredly self defense, but the issue is that Ethan was found in possession and under the influence of amphetamine when he was arrested." Daryl confesses rather matter-of-factly, raising his eyes mid sentence only to find agent Ulrich staring at him with an air of utter confusion before she interrupts him.
"I'm sorry, a second. Who's Ethan?" She asks and frowns, her eyes darting to the document in her left hand and promptly flipping its pages before covering her mouth.
"Oh God..." she breathes as the convict's mug shot is revealed, suddenly capsized by a wave of indescribable realization.
Daryl walks a little closer and cups the shoulder pad of her coat with his palm in an attempt at reassuring her and offering his support.
"Ethan Ulrich, your son..." he almost hushes. "Had he not told you?" Daryl inquires further before Rebecca manages to partially shake her stupor away.
"No... Ell--" she begins before instantly interrupting herself and keeping quiet for a second at most.
"Ethan, had not let me know. We haven't had the chance to talk in a long time..." she admits, showing but a hint of regret in the way her posture shifts.
As Rebecca enters the room, she's greeted with complete silence, the handcuffed young man sitting at the table staring her down with tired eyes. She stares right back, her heart sinking in the grieving pit nestled inside her.
...A spitting image of Rook at his age.
For the first time that day, Rebecca's facade falls as she offers her son a saddened smile, approaching the table and ever so faintly clearing her throat.
"Ethan... I'm sorry it's been so long."
The man relaxes a little at the mention of his name, surprise raising his eyebrows as his mother addresses him so casually. The distance between them is palpable the moment she settles on one of the free chairs at the table.
The young man's eyes are avoidant, bloodshot and weighed by the obvious symptoms of withdrawal, the grey marble of his irises comforting to her despite the poorly suppressed resent residing in them.
"Why did they call you?" he simply asks, his voice barely recognizable to her.
"Mister Forbes and I had to discuss about what your best strategy was... and we believe we might've found a way to spare you from serving time." Rebecca admits, releasing the breath she didn't realized she'd been holding.
Ethan seems to freeze in place, his demeanor suddenly defensive once more as he shoots a glance at the door.
"How?" he sighs, eyes narrowed.
Rebecca purses her lips and takes a short breath.
"I have my ways." she simply replies before elaborating. "I suppose it has its perks to have a mother working for the government." She jests with a pointy hint of sarcasm, which prompts Ethan to shoot her the most frigid of looks.
"I wouldn't know much about the perks of having a mother."
The reproach is a direct strike at her heart, but Rebecca notices a twinge of guilt in the young man's features once the room grows quiet again.
"You're going to rehab. Once you're sober, and if everything goes according to plan during your trial, you'll be sent to begin a mandatory service amidst the police forces... back in Wayhaven." She lays out, choosing to break away from her son's wounded stare.
Ethan keeps quiet, a confused frown crowning his brow while nervously nipping at his lips, noticeably taken aback by the way things unfolded. He raises his head to Rebecca, a newly-found vulnerability transpiring through his body as he struggles to answer anything to her.
"Wayhaven's never felt like home, you know?” he mutters, this time holding no hostility.
"For us? Certainly not..." she agrees as sweetly as she can while keeping her tears at bay, a reflex she had almost forgotten she had. "But for you now, perhaps things will be different this time."

It's been forever since I can remember participating in a wip wednesday!
This is still a rough draft (I feel like the dialogue's a little finnicky) but the rest of my fics are in too much disarray! So I'm throwing Rook angst your way
Why'd you have to chase the light?
"What would your mother think if she could see us now?" He asked, hand cupped over his mouth, muffling his words as if her mother could hear them.
Despite herself, she found herself laughing. A watery and genuine-filled laugh.
Even when he wasn't there, ceased to be real, he could make her laugh through tears.
There would be real tears shed later, right as her eyes opened or perhaps already trickling down her face.
Her heart expanded and deflated with every beat. While the sound of blood rushed in her ears. With the feelings she had now, the ones she would harbor after it was over would be no better. It was awful to be so self-aware.
For once she wished to know the bliss that was ignorance.
Because if she looked in too far, everything- all of it felt too real. So she dug her heels in.
Her feelings the unstoppable force while she the unmovable object. Each one warring and never getting anywhere. Still found right where it all started.
"She wouldn't know what to do with herself," Tone colored with light-heartedness.
"Or with us, I imagine."
Tear-filled laughter was shared, unfaltering smiles, wiping away each other's sorrow.
I really need to get back into this one because I love it but I've been trying to do three fics at once😵💫 Lately it's just been the two but I was tired for days and had no inspiration but we're back!
the fact that Dinah has the exact same reaction to mind manipulation as her father, while being one of the least affected by his absence, and being lowkey sick of being constantly told that she reminds people of him and then responding to things very much like him is—
We don't talk enough about how Rook proposed to Rebecca only 9 months in to their relationship
Detective Rook LastName locked in the moment Agent Rebecca LastName walked into that office!
Real life footage of Rook:
Real life footage of Rebecca:
I am curious, though, what their timeline was. How long it took to start dating, dating for nine months before the engagement, how long to get married, how long they’d been married before the detective was born, then two years and some months before his death. (Rebecca was promoted to the Chamber during this time, too)
It could have been a long time, it could have been a short time — but for them both, it was never ENOUGH time
