Negan needed to punish carl, for being bratty or wtv

So while he was punishing carl, he decided to gag him, make carl look helpless, cause negans a sick fuck

When he heard the muffled plea's from carl, he thought they were plea's to keep going.

He was wrong.

Negan only realized this, when instead of carl cuddling up to him after the punishment, he just laid curled up on the floor, sobbing.

“Here. Let me help you.” You moved toward him as he was struggling to wrap a scrap of fabric around the heavily bleeding cut on his forearm. “S’fine,” he spat over his shoulder. His voice was tense and perhaps even a little angry. You frowned. “Daryl—just let me help you,” you said again, taking another step toward him as the fabric he’d been attempting to fix in place unravelled. He recoiled as your fingertips nearly reached the makeshift bandage. “I said ‘m fine!” You flinched backward and your brow furrowed more deeply as you struggled to understand his sudden anger. “...what’s the matter?”

He pressed a hand back over the cut on his arm and the cotton scrap began to wick up the deep crimson. He paced the length of the room for a moment. Your eyes followed him. “What’s—what’s the matter?” he repeated, his words sharp with a steely edge. “I nearly got ya fuckin’ killed! Ya shouldn’ta even been out here!”

Understanding washed over you. He wasn’t angry with you. He was mad at himself for leading you into that building with it’s hidden danger. “Daryl, there was no way you could have known that—” “I shoulda known!” he snapped again, his hand tensing around the wound on his other arm. “I did know! All it is out here in the shit is fuckin’ death waited ‘round ever goddamn doorway! I shoulda known!” Your lips softened into a frown. “Look at me,” you said firmly. He still avoided glancing in your direction. “Look at me!” you insisted again. This time his eyes snapped over to your face and his anger seemed to melt into a look of intense regret. “It’s not your fault. Besides, you’re the one who got hurt, not me.” You went over to him and lifted his hand from the scrap of fabric, deftly wrapping it around the gash on his arm and securing it to itself. “You didn’t create this world. And you got me out of there safely. I would rather be with you in the shit out here, than anywhere else.” The archer’s rigid tension melted away, softening beneath your words. He watched with surprise as you bent and kissed his bare skin just beside the bandage.

“You’re my person,” you told him. “Okay? So, no more blaming yourself.” His heart pounding, and his face flushing with heat, Daryl found himself unable to look away from you and your softness. Prompt: “Let me help you.”

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN by Angela Kang: Carol & Daryl ride off together!

The change with Melissa not going into the spin-off happened pretty late in the game. So we'd always planned that the two of them were going to ride off together. In the original version, they would've gone on the bike and pointed west and then would've gotten sidetracked.

And then when we were running the finale, we were like, "Okay, let's reconceive how they end." So it becomes, he rides off, and she's there to support him because there's no anger or anything between them about it. It's just he's going to go off on a mission, and she has a different mission right now.

My co-writers and I, we had a different version of the Daryl-Carol scene on the bench that was a little lighter in some places, but still got to a similar sort of, "I love yous," and things like that. But Norman and Melissa's wish was to just keep it really, really simple and emotional. So I kind of rewrote it accordingly. And I think they did an amazing job with it, so that's kind of how it all came about. It's all part of a collaboration, and we work on it.
