I hold the firm belief that if someone slapped Vil and yelled at him a little bit before he overblotted, he wouldn’t have gone haywire.
I think if they had switched how people reacted with Riddle and Vil, we would’ve saved two overblots. Riddle just wanted some comfort and recognition that he was going through a hard time and needed a hug. Vil wanted someone to keep him accountable.
Rook and Kalim gave Vil empathy and reassured him that he hadn’t made a fatal mistake, which would’ve helped Riddle calm down and think rationally. Ace decked Riddle to make him own up to his crimes and behavior, which Vil would’ve benefited from.
That’s what I’m doing in my first Vil fanfic. I’m having MC smack Vil into not overblotting. I’m having a bit too much fun.
Idk how we would’ve ever defused the Riddle situation… probably by pulling him aside and giving him a hug or something… Aww, wait, that might work and be cute. Awwww, I can see that. Tell me if you think so too and I might write it later.
Let your thoughts in the comments lol. Let me know if your excited. I like people’s comments. It’s fun
I want to cover some of what we learned in Cater’s dream, because while we didn’t learn a whole lot new about him, we did learn some significant information about Heartslabyul before the start of the game. Specifically the previous housewarden (I prefer the term dorm leader so if I slip back into that here, it’s the same thing). We find out that Trey and Cater actually helped Riddle take the position, and supported him in a ‘revolution’. The previous housewarden was terrible, and much worse than what we were led to believe before. It was more than just being lax with the rules, he caused damage to the gardens and abuse to the animals.
This adds a new lens to view the events of chapter 1. Cater and Trey are not hapless victims of Riddle’s rule just trying to survive, they openly helped bring him into power, and have actively helped keep him there. When Cater asks Trey if he’s really okay with what’s happening to Ace, Deuce and Yuu, it can now be seen with a bit of guilt attached to it. This can now be viewed as partially their fault. It helps put into context why they’d work so hard to help Ace and Deuce out of this situation.
Leona and Idia warn Deuce that Trey and Cater aren’t as nice as they seem, and are in fact manipulative, and he shouldn’t trust them so easily. Cater is of course offended by this, and states he and Trey really do care about their juniors and the dorm.
It makes the entire situation they were in more complicated because while Riddle’s rule was not good, it was better than what came before, and I think even Ace would have agreed. Cater gets called just one of Riddle’s lackeys in his dorm card and doesn’t really argue against it. And I always thought this was just him not wanting to fight, but he might feel it’s *true*.
Over all I do intend to explore this new dynamic in the future. It’s nice to have more context to Heartslabyul before the game. It helps explain why Riddle trusts Cater so much and why he respects him if he’s openly had his back since day one.
Things to Know If You're New To The Twisted Wonderland Fandom!
Firstly- WELCOME ANIME FANS!!!!! We are so happy to have you!!! We've waited ages for this and we're very very excited!!!!!
But there's a few things you should know-
Number 1- Spoilers are Acceptable.
I know with most fandoms the rule is no spoilers, but this is a free-to-play game that has been out for years. You guys might only be on Chapter 1 of the book, but we're on Chapter 7. Because of this- do not complain when we speak about future arcs or characters. We're not gonna rewind just for you.
That being said- everything that is anime-specific should still be kept secret/spoiler free!
Number 2- Characters Are Not Who They Seem
All of these characters go through really nice arcs, meaning they start out as ASSHOLES. Which is why you'll see people absolutely adore characters that you might hate for the moment. We've already met them after their arc, and there's probably gonna be some fandom wars over this.
Number 3- Be Patient or Be Ridiculed
The game is FREE TO PLAY. You can download it right now and blast your way through 7 story arcs. If you complain that the anime takes too long to come out, we WILL mock you and we will not be sorry. If you're really hyperfixating, just get the game! It's fun! We promise!
We hope you enjoy the fandom, we're pretty chill and very exciteable!
I finally finished writing the final chapter to finish the Heartslabyul arc for my webcomic 'Hearts of Courage'! It took me a long time to get there but I'm just happy it's done!
All of it is available to read on ao3 and Wattpad, as for what's next my next goal is rewriting chapter 1.
(Here is the fan made webcomic in its script format.)

I recommend it, the voices are done really well!
my thoughts on CHAPTER 1
+ a Bonus Drabble Fanfic
So, the Tart Incident. Was Ace aware that he was stealing it? I think yes, because otherwise he wouldn't have made a comment on nobody noticing. If he does nothing wrong, it wouldn't matter if someone notices him. Not cool. I agree with Yuu, that Ace was in the wrong and should apologize.
Oh, the statue that got damaged yesterday is already repaired. That was quick. Was that done with magic? Could Ramshackle Dorm get repaired like that, too?
Ace gets teased/insulted by Deuce, then Grim and now Cater. Ace can't catch a break.
Ace looks so miserable, when he is painting the roses. Mood.
The way they are playing "croquet" is not appropriate animal care... But it's still not as bad as what some animals who get used for making food have to endure.
The chandelier is already fixed, too. Wow.
Cater mentions the previous housewardens of Heartslabyul for the second time that day. I can see why there was a theory that he is a previous housewarden.
Yuu's first interaction with Leona... a total meet-ugly.
I like Trey's sense of humour.
Ace peels the chestnuts with his eyes closed for most of the time. Looks like he's tired. He probably couldn't sleep well with that collar.
Deuce makes the delinquents run away with their (metaphorical) tails between their legs, for the second time. I wonder if they will respect him now or if they will never learn and continue to ruin their own days by picking fights they can't win.
So that is a tart. I didn't expect it to be so mountain-shaped.
Trey's ultimate magic is interesting.
Cater's ultimate magic is the shadow clone jutsu from Naruto.
Wait, they change the clothes with magic? They have only one outfit and transform it into different versions? Okay...
Discussion! Nice that they are trying it by talking before choosing violence. Ace is right, the rules are stupid.
Grim, who has a history of throwing tantrums, accuses Riddle of throwing a tantrum. A bit hypocritical (made me laugh), but also, if Grim considers something a tantrum, it shows, it's very unhinged and stupid, lol.
Doesn't fit into the story to have a magic batte when the gang gets kicked out, because Ace, Deuce and Grim all don't have their magic.
Trey narrates Riddle's backstory. I think the Disney character Riddle is actually based on is Amity Blight.
If it was allowed to use physical violence during the Duel, I think Deuce would have won.
What counts as winning/losing the duel? It seemed over, after Ace and Deuce couldn't use their magic anymore, but it was actually still on, even though they couldn't possibly win anymore, until Ace got disqualified for using his fists. Deuce likely got disqualified, when Trey helped him out of the collar. But how is this settled without disqualification? First blood? Going down? Someone has to admit defeat? I am curious, I hope I can see another Duel in the future.
-> This point led to a micro fanfic at the end of the post.
The voice acting for Riddle was done so well in the Overblot Scene. That was some unhinged shrieking!
Epic Battle! Nice!
The friendship part of the flashback was so cute! Riddle's mother is twisted from Gothel. She indoctrinated "Mother knows best". Terrible. Worst character so far.
Riddle understands he was wrong, because the others were stronger than him, and because they all united against him. It's good he understands after all.
Happy End! Lovely. And funny.
Riddle and Trey both had valuable character development for the better in this arc, which I enjoyed a lot.
Overall, I liked this part a lot and I like all the main characters.
Bonus Drabble/Plot Bunny (with a meme!):
Ace ragequit the dorm after getting defeated and Deuce worked hard on harsh remedial tasks. On the day he finally finished them and got his magic back, he was very fed up, and Riddle made a comment, that sent Deuce over the edge. As Riddle turned his back on Deuce, suddenly a giant cauldron slammed into him from above and knocked him out. Deuce thought, he would get expelled for losing his temper and doing this, but he merely had won the Duel, which Riddle had wrongfully assumed he himself had won long ago, after all - and became Housewarden!
