Is it just me or I feel lesbian ty lee headcanon or fesmlash content of ty lee is much more viral than azula's lesbian identity or femslash content? even though fans constantly complain about azula being overshipped in femslash when I don't see it at all

Just going by raw dumb numbers that don't take into account the focus characters or relationships of a fic, Azula's top 3 relationship tags on AO3 are:

w/Sokka: 776

w/Katara: 777

w/Ty Lee: 2,014

So we are now in a position to ignite a ship war between the Water Tribe siblings can say that Azula is heavily shipped with girls but a little less than a quarter of her top ships are for a guy.

Whether that constitutes overshipping in femslash is for the academics to decide.

This was a poll asking how do they think of ty luko as a ship, and notice how people always bring (lesbian ty lee) card when it just comes to ty lee being with a man? this makes me feel like people gets uncomfortable with shipping ty lee with a guy as much they do with azula, like throughout the show she was clearly interested in boys like noticing sokka and flirting with him more than once, or enjoying the attention from boys from the beach, or being pared with haru in the extra non-canon shorts(which were made by the same atla creators), people ignore all of that? the only reason they seem to be ok with it not in the same way they do with azula being with a guy is because how rare and uncommon any straight fanarts/fics/works are there for ty lee, so they don't feel threatened or insecure, I am almost sure if ty luko or ty lokka were much bigger ships(popular as tokka or sokkla) they will attack too, AND probably the same people were explaining to normies that ty lee could still be bisexual and it doesn't mean she is straight for showing to be interests in some boys, but in the fandom zone its always lesbian ty lee as an option,

They are uncomfortable because they probably never watched the show and decided to make headcanon and fanfics into their actual opinions of the show so when confronted with stuff that doesn't make sense with that but make sense with the show, they experience cognitive dissonance and lash out.

They just lash out less because Ty Lee is the more interchangeable part of the pairing since what they really care about is the 'Azula' in their head, what woman she's with is interchangeable, which is why they are all written the same and they latched onto Azutara once Ty Zula was declared 'problematic'.

Hell, even Azula herself doesn't matter much to them, just the 'tropes' she embodies in their minds even if they make 0 sense with how Azula actually is. They treat her as an easily copy pasted archetype across shows, to them there are no difference between Azula and say Catra and that's why they write them the same too.

Ty Lee doesn't like the pressure of being put on a pedestal as her fathers favourite. So she tries to escape as much as she can from the royal persona in her own time. It would be nice if her dear friend would treat her more person instead of royalty too. Maybe that way they could get to now each other better...

Azula was instructed by her father to fraternize with the princess to solidify their families' position in the royal court. Now that Azula has gotten to know Ty Lee a bit better she's become convinced Ty Lee's obviously the best candidate for the throne and she's determined to do anything in her power to make it happen. Now if only she could convince the princess to see her side of things...

As far as i'm concerned, ty lee both loves and fears azula. Most people tend to write her as either feeling one or the other way but its much more compeling to me that ty lee isn't lying or exagerating when she says "but you're the most beautiful, smartest, perfect girl in the world". Azula is probaby the first girl who really stood out to ty lee, her aura was an eclactic blue, her firebending was precise yet powerful, she corrected the teachers and could manipulate them to get what she wanted. So of course Ty lee being stifled, and boxed into a 'same set' is enormed by azula's brand of dominance and talent which wasn't what you'd expect from a girl of nobility,let alone a princess, and sets her apart from the other kids something ty lee really admires.

And i think, a part of ty lee felt she could, through osmosis, get some of azula's uniqueness, her innate power, by being her friend (the sad irony being that she sacrifices a lot of her own individuality for azula). So, of course ty lee rolls with whatever azula wants, and does whatever she asks (not just because she's a princess) but because she cannot imagine denying "the most beautiful, smartest, perfect girl in the world"
