Appearing on the #gaybyrne #latelateshow in 1996 aka “My Year As A Blonde” was the most exciting interview I’d ever done. Gay Byrnes Late Late Show was part of every #Irish Friday night & in my case triggered phonecalls from all my #Irish friends worldwide whose mothers had called them to say “yer #author friend, #tyneoconnell was on just Gay Byrnes last night!” I’d finally arrived. For an ancestor of #DanielOconnell The #IrishLiberator it meant more to me than my 2000 word feature in #BritishVogue “My Two Husbands” which had triggered the invitation to Dublin where Divorce had been legalised that day. As a Catholic who hadn’t separated my children from their fathers after divorce I represented a family friendly side of Divorce in what was still a very Catholic country. The Glorious Triumvirate of artists @daniellismore & @vidarlogi bring the poetry of laughter to my sick bed & whisk me off on a #magiccarpet of adventures dreams limitless possibilities & a myriad of majestic moments tug at my heart & suddenly the carefully constructed mask of coping slips! My ability to suspend the truth fails me & the awful reality of my #braintumour & fear engulfs me in the truth & lonely darkness of pain. I miss me....I miss all I once was...& the endless possibilities That stretched before me like the elaborate poetry of a hand made shoe An unopened book A full pot of ink I miss those endless Mayfair nights On Park Lane & Berkeley Square climbing the gates of #mountstreetgardens Giddy with life & burning with literary dreams I miss walking along the mayfair rooftops in historic ballgowns Clinging to chimneypots Searching for clues to other peoples pasts. @furiousgoose @thelondonjournalist & @highfashionhockey #tyneoconnell & the spirits of eccentrics past formed an impromptu salon @thewolseley to celebrate a marriage between art & silk - #eccentric #salons of #GreatBritain & Ireland in the 1600s were unlike the salons on the continent in that they were hosted by women & welcomed eccentric’s regardless of #class #race religion or #gender ⚜️over saucers of sparkling champagne they Discussed a vast array of subjects from mathematics art #opera - the mutability of #gender to #clotted cream & fashion. Our Salons were the incubators for the new ideas cultural advances and the celebrity eccentric‘s which shaped the world & continued into the Regency & were called #bluestocking salons by Victorian historians Who knew nothing about them 💜 Women were banned from every other area of society, they couldn’t enter coffee shops where men discussed politics & religion & they couldn’t walk down the street without a man. But in these eccentric salons hosted by women in the 1600s women & LGBTQs were The leading lights of the age - igniting the new ideas & setting the trends. The first famous salon was hosted by Mary Sidney - Countess of Pembroke at Wilton House Wiltshire- In March 1603 the worlds first openly #gay king #maryqueenofscots son #KingJames VI of Scotland & his eccentric Queen, Anna travelled to his coronation in London ⚜️the population ran across fields hedges & highways cheering “the queen is dead - long live Queen James” - the royals dropped by experience Mary’s Salon where Shakespeare & his players entertained them Performing “As You Like it” for the first time in history - for despite what Victorian historians would have you believe Elizabeth hated Theatre preferring bear-baiting & only four of Shakespeare’s plays were performed during her reign! - Mary Sidney was a scientist & writer one of her inventions being disappearing ink Which the #lesbian spy playwright & author Aphra Behn aka Astraea Agent 160 found awfully handy when she worked as a spy during the early years of the Restoration before Becoming the greatest playwright of the age & discovering #NellGwynn & #HenryPurcell 💜 (at The Wolseley) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0wfeYTgBE1/?igshid=1080kvjdcassu
