UI Mockup 1.0
Alright! Time is nigh for my Lotus of the Junk Heap mockup. I want to stress that it may not end up looking anything like this around the time of the demo’s release. But from everything I’ve planned out about my game, this has the features I need.
I’m using greens/blues and pinks. And taking inspiration from wall scrolls and wall fans and similar decorations.
First up, the story reading screen!
It’s pretty self-explanatory, you got your character portraits, background and menu options.
The save and load screen is kind of lame in comparison, but I didn’t want to nest the menus in too many clicks, but I’m sure there’s an A E S T H E T I C way to do it. It’ll come to me.
The party screen! This is where you can see everyone’s stats. The description on their page will update as the game progresses with new info. There’s variations to this page because Nythera’s is different from everyone else’s. If I had Nythera’s sprite, you would be seeing her instead of Solasstas on this page!
The inventory screen is also straightforward. It’s definitely more on the fun flavor texty end of things, but you have your useful bits like HP/Essence and items you’ve collected too. ...Maybe some of those items are required to trigger certain endings?
Mission Control is especially a work in progress. The basic idea is that it’ll update with all the characters you meet, and how they’re related to the plot. The left side keeps track of what you have been up to. It’s a good thing to have a journal function if you’ve put down the game for a long time. I know I want a journal function in RPGs if I came back after a long hiatus.
The journal screen might be consolidated with Mission Control screen at some point. The reason it still remains is because the story is shared between the player and Nhat Mai. You’ll read certain chapters in Nhat Mai’s POV, and I am still undecided if I want to force the players to read them as they are unlocked, or leave them up to the player to read on their own.
That’s about it! We’ll see how much improvements I make to the UI months later.
My friend’s not a fan of my UI mockup. What do you guys think—does it look decent at least?
