Fresh Ukryu headcanons
Got a fresh ask from Ao3 after I reopened my asks for ukryu or Tsukasa content, and I decided to go for some simple, easy headcanons this time around, just to shake things up <3
Ryusui is still not that much of a fan of monogomy.
His parents had issues with cheating and an all around rocky marriage, so if he dates, he makes it very clear that he doesn't expect to be locked in and exclusive. He isn't a fan of his partner running rampant, but so long as you ask, he'd let you mess around with others.
Ukyo meanwhile is generally more calm in his relationships.
He looks more monogamous than Ryusui, but he's still very flexible and adjustable to healthy dynamics. That's why he's okay with Ryusui being a hoe.
Together though, these two make a wonderful team.
In a couple sense, they work well together because Ryusui can take charge and make decisions, while Ukyo can be the voice of reason when his partner's greed gets ahead of him. Not to mention their energies balance out pretty nicely, with Ukyo encouraging the blonde to relax and be less loud, and Ryusui encouraging Ukyo to socialize.
Though that doesn't mean Ryusui is constantly loud. He's well aware of Ukyo's hearing sensitivity, so he will curb his own volume or even use sign language to make sure he doesn't hurt his partner.
Ukyo meanwhile doesn't force the blonde to entirely give up his greedy, energetic ways, he grows to enjoy the outings he's drug out on sometimes. He simply encourages him to enjoy quieter moments too.
Even outside of a relationship setting, they work very well together to run the Perseus smoothly.
All around, these two work pretty well together, and would be a cute couple and pretty healthy.
Ukryu fanart! A little monsterverse fanart because I wanted to draw more water scenes. It's not my best, but I'm happy all the same!

Ukyo missed the modern times immensely, especially earplugs, after the stone wars had ended. He, of course, loved that there was minimal to no bloodshed from the battle, but now that the two kingdoms were united, things had gotten so much louder. To make that fact even worse, they'd found Ryusui Nanami, a millionaire with no volume control and a seemingly high opinion of himself, and a pretty obvious crush on Ukyo. The archer had absolutely no clue how Ryusui had zeroed in on him, he was nowhere near the social circles the blonde would've run in back in modern times, he purposely tried not to stand out or attract attention, even in the new world, and just did whatever he could to avoid the loud extrovert when he'd been revived, but it was as if Ryusui Nanami had a sixth sense when it came to finding introverts who just wanted to be left alone. While it was kind of sweet to see someone so stuck in puppy-love, it became a hassle for the poor loner. For weeks, the millionaire would seek him out whenever there was a moment of free time, and would flirt to the best of his abilities, flustering and following the archer around until either his butler, Francois, pulled him away, or he had to return to working on the kingdom of science's latest work. "Ryusui," Ukyo finally sighed while the blonde tried for the umpteenth time that day to flirt with him, "Have you not caught on to the fact that I don't want to date you?" For a moment, that seemed to silence the chatterbox, and the archer watched as he seemed to mentally run through their interactions to fact check him. Then, he nodded, "Yeah, it's been pretty clear, I guess..." he admitted, running a hand through his hair with a small sigh, "but, I really like you, and thought that maybe you were just playing hard to get. Though if you really don't have any romantic interest in me...uh, maybe we could be friends? And later on I can see if I can worm my way into your affections?" he asked, his brown eyes glittering with honest hope despite the still-flirty edge to his words . "Iiiii guess," Ukyo relented, "to being friends, not dating you." he reiterated, and the man nodded, completely accepting the offer. So the smaller male humored the millionaire from time to time, but made very sure that he knew his boundaries, like not to be loud around him, or that he wouldn't participate in activities with large groups very often, and surprisingly, Ryusui respected each boundary set, and would quickly adapt the way he acted in response, which helped them grow closer. Because of that, Ukyo warmed up to him a lot faster than he thought he would, and, despite his reservations, he found Ryu to be quite charming when he wasn't being an abrasive snob or obnoxiously loud. "Can I ask you something?" He inquired one day during one of their hangouts, while he and the blonde sat beside a quiet river, fishing the afternoon away since they currently had nothing else to do that would've helped speed up the building of the ship. So, there they sat in a comfortable silence, the captain laying back with his hat over his eyes and the archer now watching him while he hummed at his question, "why are you so hellbent on getting close to me?" That made him lift his hat to look back at the curious man, "Is your self esteem that low? I find you attractive, I desire you greatly. While I respect you not wanting to date me just yet, I still want to have a relationship with you in some fashion." he explained as if it were obvious, which, Ukyo had to admit, it was, but he still wasn't expecting such a blunt, in-depth reply. "n-not romantically, I meant why do you want to be my friend. We aren't from the same social standing in modern terms, our personalities are opposites, so aside from wanting to convince me to sleep with you, I don't know why you'd want to hang around me " he listed, looking back at the water and hoping his cheeks weren't as bright a pink as he felt they might be, and while Ryusui snorted, he was nice enough not to mention it if they were, "You're actually pretty fun to be around. Our little hang outs give me a chance to relax. Oh, also, our personalities aren't so opposite that we shouldn't get along. I do tire of being a social butterfly and charming." he hummed, dropping his hat back onto his face. After that, the introvert was a tad bit flustered for a while, and for a few more days got embarrassed whenever he saw the blonde, remembering the small compliment he gave him. After a month or so of slightly awkward hangouts though, as winter was beginning to settle in around them, the captain began to ask Ukyo to hang out more, especially when snow fell and he got the urge to snowboard or build snowmen with the others, but Ukyo would usually still refuse or hang back from the group activities until the the archer reminded him of his aversion to noisy settings. After that, Ryusui once again listened, calming down on inviting the smaller male out to big social events and just sticking to finding moments when they could just be alone and chat or do something simple. That small act seemed to be the final check point of sorts, and Ukyo was soon confronted with how easily flustered he suddenly was around Ryusui, or how sensitive he seemed to any possible underlying flirtations in the man's words. He was developing a damned crush in return. It was one thing to be nice and respect his boundaries, but on top of that, Ryusui proved to be a charming, smooth-talking man and the snowy haired man admittedly had a weakness for tall, handsome, respectful men, so the fact that the millionaire was hitting all of his standards was honestly bound to create an attraction. Though, Ukyo hadn't expected to maybe have feelings for the millionaire so reasonably soon after meeting him, it usually took so much longer for him to become infatuated. However, one snowy day when the archer wasn't doing anything particularly important, the extroverted blonde delivered the final nail in the coffin for him falling, at least a little, for him. "Ukyo~" the tall captain sang with a grin as he jogged up with his hands behind his back, "Yes, Ryusui?" the archer asked, a bit suspicious at his chipper tone on such a chilly day, "I've got you a surprise! Close your eyes," he instructed, looking at the male expectantly until he huffed and finally shut his eyes. After that, Ryusui plopped a pair of headphones onto Ukyo's head, suddenly dropping him into a muffled world that made his eyes pop open to see the blonde beaming at him triumphantly. After a moment of shock, Ukyo pushed the headphones onto his neck so he could talk, "Ryusui? What the heck is this for?" "Well, you told me you had trouble with loud noises, so I thought I'd get Kaseki to make you some noise cancelling headphones! I dunno how well they work for you, but they at least muffle everything pretty well, so..." he shrugged, than tensed momentarily when Ukyo suddenly hugged him, before hugging him back and grinning "I'll take that as a thank you,"
Seashells by the seashore
Oh boy, Ukryu content instead of Stano! What a change! This time, it’s Reverseverse Ukryu, aka monsterverse, but the roles are altered and swapped. Same au as this piece, and this one, if you’re curious for more.
The beach was a wonderful reprieve from the cacophony of the city for Ukyo. He had some impressive hearing, which often gave him a headache with all of the noises, so the softer sounds of the water, and solitude he could find there. In short, it was simply relaxing. So, naturally, when one of his leave days were free and exceptionally sunny, Ukyo was sitting on a towel under an umbrella at a part of the beach where a cluster of rocks almost cut off a section of the beach from the rest. The other side of the beach was pretty busy with families and general beach goers, but on the sonar tech's side of the rocks, the only consistent sound was the ocean and the fishermen working on the dock a good distance down. However, his peace and quiet was eventually interrupted when a sea shell seemed to fly out of the water and smack right into the white-haired-man's head. However, when he looked up, Ukyo saw no people in the water close enough to throw it. "Hello?" Ukyo asked into the warm, open air, "Um, hi." A voice responded awkwardly, but not from the water, from the rocks behind him. That time, when the military man looked to the noise with a start, he saw a man with wild ebony hair and shockingly dark skin. They were in japan, but the young man perched on the highest rock had richly brown skin that darkened further to a near black at his hands. He must be a tourist, the sonar tech decided, "Did you throw this shell at me?" He asked, but the new person shook his head, "Might've been a mermaid, they sometimes throw stuff at people on the beach. I think it's a game." the tourist explained, his lack of any accent sort of impressing Ukyo, but he didn't comment on it. "So, what's your name?" "Sai, you?" "I'm Ukyo, nice to meet you," As they spoke, the possible tourist began to pick his way carefully down to the sand, approaching like a stray cat. Ukyo ended up closing his book and putting it to the side, now more interested in the new guy who now sat against the rock divider as they continued to talk. "So, why were you up at the top like that?" Ukyo asked, gesturing up to the rock mound, "It's easier to keep an eye on my baby brother from there, you get quite the view of the beach and water," Sai explained, "Oh! You're here with your family? How are you guys enjoying Japan?" The simple question seemed to take Sai by surprise for a second, but he got over that pretty quickly, "Oh, no, I'm not a tourist." He explained, grinning a bit at the mix up while the sonar tech felt embarrassment crawl over his skin, "I was born and raised here, my mother was simply indian," "Ah...sorry for that," the white-haired man said, his voice weak with embarrassment and shame, but Sai simply waved the issue off, "It's fine, you're not the first person to confuse me for a tourist. I actually find it amusing when people do," He assured. Nonetheless, the sonar tech was broiling in his guilt, thoughts of whether or not he was offensive in his assumption bubbling in his brain, but Sai wasn't offended, so those thoughts were easy to shake. The sheer embarrassment of that mistake though, was sure to haunt him. The sonar tech's guilt-party was interrupted when, yet again, a shell flew out of the water at him, barely missing his head that time. It made Sai laugh a bit, "I think the siren likes you," He teased, making the military man snort, "How do you know they aren't trying to kill me?" Sai shrugged, "If it's who I think it is? He's not trying to hit you in the head, he's a little too nice for that." Ukyo just stared at Sai after that, watching as he seemed to decide he'd said too much and turned awkward in a matter of seconds. "You know a siren? Or...mermaid?" he watched Sai fidget slightly, "Uh, I'm told he's a siren," He offered, his awkward energy as he seemed to read the question written on the sonar tech's face, "That's my brother. Which is how I know which type he is." They fell quiet after that, the white-haired military man digesting that new information until he heard Sai getting up. "Hey! W-wait, I'm not judging you," he called after the dark-skinned man, mentally kicking himself Why'd you say that?! Why would you be judging him? he scolded himself while Sai just shook his head, "Nah, you're not the issue. I actually just, have to go home now." Sai said reassuringly, giving a wave and walking down the beach towards the distant dock. Leaving Ukyo confused and still slightly embarrassed with two new gifts. This day is so weird.
Leave him Johnny leave him
After so insanely long, a second monsterverse Ukryu fic! Some things might be changed, but I hope you enjoy it either way.
Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. The rocking of the ship Ryusui leaned on almost lulled the blonde sailor to sleep as he rested his arms on the rail and watched the bottomless trench of blue glitter in the light of the silver moon. Every once in a while, he'd see the flick of a dark colored tail, or flash of hair in the water, but he recognized all of the sirens below.
After all, three years of chumming and bribing was bound to lure in repeat customers. However, he was only really interested in one siren. "Shall we go back to the shore, sir?" Francois asked coming up from below deck, where Ryusui assumed they were cleaning up or reading. He shook his head at the servant, "No, I want to stay out another hour at least," with that, Francois nodded and quietly went back below deck. That, once more, left Ryusui alone on deck to watch the water lap at the side of his ship rythmically. Then, he saw it.
It wasn't the clearest sign, but he saw something move in the waters below, making his stomach sound the alarm. So, naturally, the blonde listened to his instinct and launched himself into the water, powering through the shock of the cold midnight water and swimming deeper to follow the flash of the glittering black tail. When closer, he could confirm that the siren he was chasing was the same one he'd fed, so he kicked harder and swam down to him faster until he was face to face with the beautiful, pale face of his dreams.
The creature was bigger than Ryusui remembered, not so much in length, he still estimated him to be 10 feet from head to tail fin, but just in general proportion. The creature was noticeably all around bigger than the 6'2 blonde. He was also clearly confused to see the man in the water.
Trying not to grin and let his breath trickle out into the water, Ryusui waved, focusing on the dim glowing of the siren's hypnotic green eyes to track the predator in the dark water. For now, he was just drifting around Ryusui, seeming to size him up while he kept his eyes on him.
Since he couldn't speak, Ryusui could do little more than watch the siren's fluid movements and listen to his tail stirring the dark water. Sadly though, he couldn't stay down there forever, having to begin kicking upwards to the surface. However, he made sure to keep his hazel eyes on the predator circling him, especially when the white-haired creature began to follow him up.
He only broke eye contact for a second to look up and ensure he was heading to the ladder up to the ship, but even then, when he glanced back, the siren had swam closer to his feet. So, despite the thrill coursing in his blood, Ryusui made sure to do all he could to not look away from him as he reached up to grab the lowest rung of the ladder.
He continued to watch the siren as he climbed up. With each rung he pulled himself onto, the siren grew closer. He knew something would happen, he sensed it in his gut, and by the time his feet were on the third ladder step, he siren's head was above the water, his snow-colored hair sparkling in the light of the moon. Ryusui thought that only made the siren more beautiful, but his immediate concern was the way his eyes glittered evilly.
His suspicions were confirmed when the predator's pale hand shot out of the water and grabbed onto his ankle, sinking his claws deep into Ryusui's flesh before trying to pull him back into the cold water. The only thing that saved the blonde from a surely violent end was the fact he had his other foot firmly on the ladder rung, giving him a much needed split second to tighten his slippery grip on the higher rung.
Ryusui was swift to begin pulling himself up, fighting against the predator's grip and inhuman strength as best he could. However, with how slippery his hands were, and the imbalanced amounts of strength, Ryusui's struggle did little to keep him out of the cold water. Thankfully, he was a strong swimmer, so he was able to not completely freeze up in the cold ocean. However, the siren was still much better than him, so Ryusui did the only thing he could think to do. He poked him in the eye.
As soon as the creature let him go, Ryusui swam up to the surface, scrambling up the ladder once more. Sadly, just as he was near the top of the ladder, he felt his ankle get grabbed again, razor sharp claws raking the skin from his legs as the siren sunk back down into the water, trying to drag him with. However, Ryusui was better prepared for it, clinging to the ladder with all of his strength.
Thankfully, he managed to stay out of the water, but the payment was the searing pain of the siren's claws cutting into him. The pain made Ryusui curse, but he knew better than to let go and try to pry the siren off. Instead, he pulled himself up onto the edge of the deck, gritting his teeth as the siren's claws raked down his leg further until he finally, finally let go to splash back into the water. Ryusui used that opening the drag himself back on board. "FRANCOIS!" He screamed once safely back on the boat, laying on his side until the crimson-haired servant came running over.
He was sure the servant said something to him, but the blonde was already zoning out into the abyss, a grin still on his face.
Tooth rotting fluff of ukryu in the modern cafe au 👉👈 make both of us happy. Idc if you write something out or do hcs we just need a liddle love
I did my best to make it properly cute, but I honestly struggle to tell if something is truly cute to anyone but me. This little scenario was inspired partially by a story by, I believe, IAmStoryteller on archive of our own, all respect to them for this idea!
Ukyo's plan after the military had been to settle down and live a quiet, stress-free life, so he found himself a quaint cafe to work at in a quiet part of town. It was a dream job for him, not super busy most of the time, lovely bosses, and the rowdiest coworker he had was a girl in university who had a habit of singing her heart out to Lillian almost as soon as he left at the end of his shift and she was alone. The only other nuisance Ukyo found was a specific customer. Ryusui Nanami, of the Nanami conglomerate.
Ryusui was known for being a loud, abrasive, slightly out-of-touch rich kid who seemed to have no idea about honest struggles, so the radar technician didn't exactly start off liking him. However, the millionaire was swift to set his sights on the shorter man and was determined to disrupt his peaceful life with his well-off chaos. At first, Ukyo thought he'd get the hint that this hairbrained scheme of his wasn't going to work, but Ryusui was as stubborn as a mule and was shockingly charming and accommodating, which was Ukyo's one weakness when coupled with how attractive the heir to the Nanami conglomerate was.
He was just as loud as the cafe worker had thought he'd be, but when Ukyo explained how sensitive his hearing was, he actually toned it down, and sometimes would even go so far as to use sign language if it was one of the cafe's rare busy days and the place was already roaring with noise. With that, and some other charming things he'd done, the pretty rich boy had managed to finally win Ukyo over, and so, their relationship started.
It'd now only been two months at most since Ukyo had been lured into dating him, but he'd already been tossed from Ryusui's bedroom window like a child's bag of soccer equipment, which is why they now mostly spent the night together on his ship, harassed by Minami for answers to her questions about their rumored relationship, and subjected to sugar baby jokes by customers who assumed correctly that he and the blonde were an item despite them not being public thanks to Ryusui's parents being hellbent on his sexuality staying under wraps.
Though Ukyo had to admit, it wasn't that bad despite Ryusui's family life being...strange, and the few times the well-off man forgot his boundaries about noise. Despite his mask of being obnoxiously out of touch with reality though, Ryusui was honestly one of the most compassionate people Ukyo'd met in a long while. "It's all an act, Uky," he'd admitted to the snowy-haired sonar-tech on their third date, "It's easier for me to just be the person everyone expects me to be than to fight it to try and convince them I've changed," he explained, taking a bite of the Alfredo Francois had made them for the date, "Well, you realize you don't have to fake it around me, right? I think I would've left by now if I wasn't willing to accept you not being as awful as people say you are." the other man hummed, and Ryu looked at him, somewhat measuring his honesty before swallowing his mouthful and nodding. Ever since then, Ryusui had been much more open and relaxed around Ukyo. Even when he came by the cafe he worked at, Ryusui still came off as a more honest version of himself, not as snobby or pushy, just purely excitable, like a puppy dog.
The memory made Ukyo smile a bit, so he rolled over in the small bed he and the blonde currently laid in on Ryusui's boat to snake his arm around him as the sea swayed and rocked them gently, "Whatcha up to, pretty boy?" the millionaire hummed, looking down at the smaller male who was cuddling up to him now, "I'm just being affectionate." he hummed, making the man snort, but he didn't deny him the cuddles, just putting his arm around him loosely and returning to watching his phone.
For a while, Ukyo just cuddled up to Ryusui and was comfortable until his phone buzzed and his alarm for work went off. "I thought you didn't work today," the millionaire huffed, tightening his hold on the smaller male while he squirmed to get to his phone, "I don't, but one of the workers had an exam today, so I offered to take her shift," Ukyo explained, stretching himself and trying to take advantage of how the gentle rocking of the ocean sometimes scooted his phone just a bit closer until he could finally grab it. So, the problem of the alarm was solved, but now he had to pry himself away from his boyfriend. "Ryusui," he sighed, turning his head to look back at the noisy blonde as best he could with said blonde nuzzled into his neck, "Let go now, I need to get to work." All he got was a muffled 'nuh-uh'.
With a small sigh, the snow-haired veteran began wriggling and writhing and lighting smacking at Ryusui when he tightened his hold too much until finally he managed to win his freedom and scramble to his feet. In response, his boyfriend sighed dramatically, rolling onto his back and acting as if losing his small cuddle buddy was the end of the world for a moment, then he finally sat up and helped Ukyo gather his things. After that, he didn't actually complain or pout as he simply drove Ukyo closer to the cafe he worked at, but he did get revenge.
Just as the radar technician was getting out of the car and gathering his things, Ryusui came over to his side of the car and struck like a waiting, publicly affectionate snake, hugging him, littering his face with kisses, knowing very well how much PDA embarrassed the shorter man. "I swear to god, Ryusui stop it! This is humiliating!" he whined, trying to contort himself to avoid the onslaught of kisses, but with the sailor being around 6'2 and as stubbornly strong as he was, Ukyo had no choice but to bear the act until he was finally released, his boyfriend satisfied with the vibrant red of his cheeks. "Have a good day at work~" He sang, returning to the driver's side of the car, acting as if his partner wasn't glaring daggers at him. Afterward, Ukyo just shook his head and huffed, but went to the cafe, not really as mad as he acted.
