I’ve always had my superstitions about you.
That’s not to say I never believed you existed, I just found it impossible how you could physically go around the world in one night delivering presents. Didn’t you get cold? Tired? Didn’t you get overwhelmed? I always left cookies and milk out for you, and they were gone the next morning. I made up stories about you, stories that went beyond “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer”. Stories that took you on wild adventures. I hope you don’t mind. I was very imaginative as a child.
You came in another form to me. Sure, I knew that you were Santa, but in the religion I grew up in we referred to you as “St. Nick”. And in this story, you left money and candy for the poor in their shoes they left at their doorstep. There were no reindeer. You were poor too, and yet you still had enough to feed others. That amazed me.
So, yeah. Is there really a guy in a red suit that delivers packages around the world for just one night? Probably. How else would we have so many stories about you? I guess this is one of those “see to believe” type of things. I’ve never seen you, but I know of you. And you probably know everything about me. (i.e., YOU BETTER WATCH OUT meme. Do you even know what memes are?)
I think you’re more of a ‘feeling’. A feeling of Christmas. A feeling of the holidays. The embodiment of happiness and joy and laughter.
It’s the children that keep your spirit alive. Their wonder, their fantasies, their innocence. Without them, there wouldn’t be you.
Thank you for taking care of me all these years.
