Pretty sure I only shared this on my discord but I wanted to try making some more custom poses for Iris to use in story cutscenes in my project “Ghost Stories” so I made an umbrella! Took ages to put together and while its not perfect, it works for what its intended for. I’ll even share a quick guide on how I did it!
Made the umbrella sprite add on using a combination of Graphicsgale and Sai Paint Tool for the shading and highlights (This part took FOREVER for some reason...)
Made sure it fit within the Big Monster sprite sheet after placing my character in the right places (Note: See example below)
In Graphicsgale, I adjusted the sprite so that one arm was stationary to hold the umbrella, usually the character’s right arm.
I had to create several layers to get the positioning of the umbrella right such as a top layer with the default umbrella, the middle with the handle and arm, and the bottom layer with the underside of the umbrella to make it seem like it was really above her head and a bit more 3D. Sadly the handle doesn’t properly align with the top of the umbrella but its a sacrifice I had to make so it wouldn’t cover her face or look even more unnatural than this.
In closing, I suppose I could have made more adjustments to look more realistic but since adding rain darkens the game screen anyway I figured I could disguise the flaws. After all, I haven’t been able to find any umbrella existing assets for RPG Maker VX Ace online anyway so when all else fails, make your own!
Bottom layer (adjust as needed to your liking) ^
Big monster template (gives you more room for sprite customization) ^

Umbrella layers put together. Remember to put your character below the top layer and handle layer and adjust one arm as needed to match the character themselves.
Also, one last thing, feel free to recolor this if you want. Just remember to credit me as “SecretSigil.” Thanks!
