Honest to fuck!! Every time I think I find a reactor who actually understands Ilya and his character, I end up completely disappointed. Even when they love him in Episode 1, think he's funny and seem to understand the complexities of his life in Russia, it ALWAYS ends up with them making Ilya out to be some kind of cruel monster.

WHY CAN NO ONE UNDERSTAND THAT BOTH CHARACTERS ARE AT FAULT FOR THE BAD COMMUNICATION??? WHY CAN NO ONE UNDERSTAND THAT THEY BOTH AGREE TO A NO STRINGS ATTACHED RELATIONSHIP, EVEN IF THEY BOTH WANT MORE!!!

Like, seriously how do people go from thinking Ilya is funny and having sympathy for him to hating him because he ghosted Shane for 6 months? Obviously not good, but I'll point out that they were ONLY hooking up at this point with NO expectations or promises exchanged. Ilya didn't owe Shane anything. (And vice versa!) And in fact, one of the reasons Shane is so mad at Ilya for ghosting him is BECAUSE he's upset by it. Shane believes they SHOULDN'T BE TOGETHER! He thinks Ilya is doing the smart thing by staying away, but it hurts him, and that makes him mad.

Then these people never seem to get the Dom/sub dynamic to their relationship even though it's very thoroughly established in the first episode. But because they don't get it, they assume Ilya's just "using" Shane in Vegas, and "treating him like dirt" instead of giving Shane EXACTLY what he wants.

Then they act like the following two years of hookups (episode 4 montage) are all Ilya taking advantage of Shane while Shane's heart is breaking.

Bitch!! Both their hearts are breaking! 🤦🏻‍♀️ How do you fucking miss that?! But they've BOTH chosen to take what they can from each other, believing they can't have more.

I'm just so fucking sick to death of being excited that maybe FINALLY someone gets it, and then inevitably they end up being clueless fucking idiots.

Does anyone have any suggestions for Ilya friendly reactors? Here are a few I've found:

Killer Croc is written best when he's depressing

I should be feeling sorry for him, make me desperately wish Batman understood

He should always be a dumb, strong, ugly, guy who is by the laws of the universe, never allowed to catch a break.

If a story gives him something like a family, its so he can have the veil ripped away and be left even more alone.

The only thing he is allowed to be is the villain the world wants him to be, anything else is punished.

You know, I really believe that if circumstances afforded him better opportunities, Waylon Jones could have used his mutations to become a superhero.

In a world where Charles Xavier found Waylon in very early life he could have been a great hero

But the only time he is allowed to be happy is the place where everything is "wrong". Absolute universe is the bad one?

It's funny how you learn more about you character by simply writing them. I just wrote a line in my latest chapter that really made me understand how that character relates to the mc.

Ironically it was the line that shattered his view of the mc, that made him rethink everything he knew about her. I guess it also made me rethink everything he knew about her too.

Let's look at this throughline of characterization for Dick, in Batman & Robin: Year One #5 & #6

A "circus", a "show" a performance

These are not light whimsical words to Dick Grayson. These are the words that fed his family, the words that kept his entire community together and healthy.

A show, a circus? his family was murdered over a circus show. He sweat and bled every day for a circus show.

Dick lived every day of his life in the reality that if the "show" at the "circus" wasn't perfectly executed with military precision his family would be injured and his entire community would lose some ability to buy food and medicine.

The most serious business. And Batman is a performance, Dick sees this as intrinsic, but Bruce probably doesn't realize it yet. Dick sees this PERFORMER, talking shit about the circus and calling him undisciplined, saying this isn't a show? If there's one thing Dick knows it's show business and therefore by extension, discipline.

IDK, you should be reading Batman & Robin: Year One, #6 just came out, there's 6 left. I'm not (insert reason) enough to write the essay this story deserves, but i can tell the writing deserves the essay.

I can't stand seeing Batman fight Darksied or Doomsday, it's so stupid.

This is where he belongs, where stakes matter.

This is where Batman shines. This shit is why Superman respects him.

This high.

The whole world is on the line. A man with a gun. A helpless family. A tired, injured, Bat in body armour. Possible but narrow odds,. Barely any time. The whole world on the line. And Bruce understands that, because his world was destroyed once.
