I had another nightmare last night. I woke up shivering and covered in a thick layer of sweat despite the blasting AC at four am. My light still on, but every shadow seemed to move anyway. Every sound was a threat and every small movement I made sent another wave of fear through me. I can’t remember my nightmares, their content escapes my waking mind though I've tried to remember them....... I haven’t had one in so long I almost forgot how drained I feel, how fearful of something I can’t even remember. I tripped and nearly fell in the few steps to the light switch to stop the dancing, taunting shadows cast by the lights above. I shook without a blanket and became a furnace of heat with one. Images of what may have plagued me flashing in my mind and my eyes swollen and dark from the entire night spent crying and sobbing. The horrible part isn’t waking from them, it’s not remembering a single detail of WHAT I’m afraid of. It seems basic fears are too small, yet I know if it was about my internal fear of my past then I would have woken up screaming again, or at least blubbering incoherently and curled into a corner pitifully until I calmed down.
