"The Kennedy Center is an institution that belongs to the American people, not to Donald Trump," said Rep. Joyce Beatty, who sued over the renaming.
An appropriate birthday present for my uncle's birthday today. A federal judge ruled that President Trump and the Kennedy Center Board acted unlawfully in renaming the Kennedy Center. The judge held that only Congress can change the Center's name and blocked the planned two-year closure. I know they'll probably appeal and the story isn't over, but for today let’s celebrate a great birthday gift.
The Kennedy Center is named after John F. Kennedy, not Donald Trump.
It was originally created as the National Cultural Center in 1958. After President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, Congress passed bipartisan legislation renaming it the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a living memorial to JFK.
