Head Held Captive
My head and my heart
They tend to have a strange relationship
Like this one time
My heart laid her eyes on you
And she fell head over heels for your beauty
My head was truly confused
My heart truly naïve
So from behind my iron ribs
My heart began to show my head
She began to describe in detail
How my nails had to be painted to compliment your piercing green eyes
How my outfit had to be not too much but just enough to draw your attention
How my body position at any moment had to mimic yours
How every word that slipped from my mouth had to be thoughtful
My head became a puppet
My heart a puppet master
And days flew by before my head realized the cage he lived in
He began to plead with my heart
He described all the flaws
How we barely spoke
How we lived in different worlds
How you didn’t even know my name
How coming out unscathed was impossible
My heart pointed to her bruises, cuts, and scars
She asked “How much damage do you think he can do?”

City of Vices
My head is unleveled. I won't throw the dice without rolling a lie. Teach me how to deceive myself, and forever I will be yours. Deal the cards and make it quick. This high is fading and my life is returning. In a self-destructive circle that has always revolved. Much like the chamber of the revolver I keep beneath my pillow. For the day when my exaggerations come back home for me. Around the same self-depriciating halo, that hangs below my neck and not above my head. City lights set the streets afire, and all the sinners and saints scramble away from their sanctions. Bare skin to bare supple skin. Blind for the moment and drunk through the next. My head is unleveled.
