The below image isn't legally csam but it's still very questionable
Confused an irritated right now. I went to reply to this Ask and saw that the relevant post was just missing.
I did not delete it. Tumblr appears to have secretly deleted it without informing me or explaining it's reasoning.
Irritated that anyone thought this was bad in the first place. Irritated that they reported it. Irritated that Tumblr removed it. And irritated that they didn't just tell me it had been removed.
Here is the background:
That post was answering someones question about whether there was any proof that the child characters in the visual novel Unteralterbach were really based on real people. I said there was, and I gave concrete proof by posting character screenshots side-by-side with the people they were based on. The outfits, in particular, were extremely unique and easy to see how closely the artwork mirrored it.
There was nothing wrong with the post, and despite what this ridiculous Ask says, there was nothing even mildly questionable about it. I intentionally avoided names or background information or anything that might identify who these people were. It was literally three photos of kids in dresses. Like very normal, non-sexual dresses that you would see on any city street. The poses were literally like "standing" or "sitting" - not even mildly suggestive.
So who benefits from this sort of idiotic censorship? If you believe that what Unteralterbach did is wrong (and that's a pretty solid argument, in my opinion), you now have no proof whatsoever. In fact, try searching for it online. It is bafflingly hard to find, because it just gets deleted quietly like this on every single website.
This is why we live in an age where people's evidence is "just trust me!" Because often you literally cannot show people the evidence or discuss it. Not if it's something seen as controversial or problematic. If you do, it will be deleted, you won't even know it's gone, and there will be no record of it.
It just immediately reminds me of that Tori Woods situation where people made ridiculous claims about her book and said "well, I have plenty of evidence but I just can't show it to you." And it reminds me of when people were claiming that a different author was arrested for something - I casually asked for more info, and people were just furious over it, downvoting my comment, unable to understand why anyone wouldn't just immediately believe something a stranger said online:
Well let me be clear:
YOU SHOULD NOT JUST BLINDLY TRUST ME.
YOU SHOULD NOT BLINDLY TRUST ANYONE ONLINE.
YOU SHOULD TRUST EVIDENCE.
(And even then, retain a healthy skepticism)
