Hello Zen! Thank you so much!
(I hope you're doing better <3)
Tis the ask game
3. rant. just do it
Ouff. Too many things to rant about lately. I'm... Let's say I'm trying to digest realising that autism is a disability.
it feels a bit like being a fish in its aquarium, and observing other people pass by. I love the fishies, I just need to accept being one and having fins in a world fit for four-legged animals. (I'm Darwin from Gumball. That's a comforting thought.)
Oh, and I miss 2023 Tumblr, before everyone decided fandom has to be made private and we were all sharing and playing with dolls together.
19. what’s your favorite teacher you’ve ever had?
Already answered here!
I'll talk of another one. As much as a course of studies in Russian Language and Literature is not a walk in the park, starting from nothing and starting from italian (whole-ass different verbal system), I had the luck of meeting some great professors who LOVED their subject.
The one that stayed in mind the most, for humanity, was Russian Language in the second year. Mind me, that exam was HUGE. With the most difficult topics (Russian motion verbs are... Let's say HIGHLY specific. I'll stop there.). First year the professor was... lacking. So we had a lot of holes in our preparation.
This professor rolled her sleeves up and picked us up from the gutter. She was highly demanding, to the point that I skipped class when I wasn't ready for it, or too anxious (it's not a problem in italy. Or well, it is, but in a "Fuck around and find out" way. You won't automatically fail the exam if you skipped lessons). She required a lot of work, and gave back equally. She loved her subject, she was IN LOVE with linguistics and grammar and how languages work. DEFINITELY passed it on.
Plus, on the third year exam she was lovely.
Russian Language 3 was my last exam, with another professor who was a bit of a snob. I already failed that twice, and if I had failed on that occasion, I would have had to do an extra year in uni. I didn't want to, for ONE exam. My mental health was spiralling down, and after the first part of the exam, I was alone in a corridor hyperventilating and crying.
Professor of Russian 2 was passing by. She saw me. Recognized me. And stopped to cheer me up. She was lovely, and kind, and I passed that exam thanks to her and the lecturer. Lessons in humanities, really.
23. if you could break one of your bad habits which would you choose?
Already answered here
Another thing: complaining. i do hate complaints that do not have a solution. I yap to find the solution, because word-vomits make me realize stuff and get better.
I do not find myself nice as I do.
(thank you dear recipients of my yapping, you're much appreciated for your patience <3 )
I was wondering about 27 and 30 for the unusual asks <3
Hiiii Liv! Ofc!
27 - how long before a trip do you pack?
Ahhh so… I have a horrible fear of being unprepared, so I USED to be the type that packed days in advance… but these days I hate even thinking about it so much that I usually leave it to the last possible minute ajdbskdjs, sometimes even directly before leaving… it’s so bad ahhh I hate it! You’d think I’d be used to it, since I do actually travel quite often, but nope! I despise it.
30 - if you had to dye your hair an unnatural color rn what would you choose? - so I think I’ve said this before but unfortunately my career as a teacher kinda limits what I can do with my appearance lol… especially as a student teacher. So the most I would do right now is maybe an auburn red; not quite natural but enough to get away with it. I’ve done a similar color before temporarily and it wasnt bad on me!
If I had more freedom tho I would do purple! I always wanted purple hair; I’ve only ever done temporary dye like I said. My hair is pretty dark so I would have to bleach it a lot to dye, and I do actual quite like my natural color (and my scalp) so I’m not rly too bummed about not having the chance rn.
My hair is dark enough that I do actually get asked if I dye it this dark, from time to time; especially if I havent been out in the sun lately (i get more goldish highlights then) . So yeah I dont mind it really! I would love to try a color at some point, but it isnt super feasable rn anyways ;)
7. what color hair do you have? Naturally, I have a mid to dark brown hair. Right now it is very flexed with grey. Especially in the front 🤣
13. any siblings? Just me, myself, and I
77. do you miss anyone right now? Recently, I have very much been missing my friends in Australia. I also found myself missing my horse, who passed last summer. At Christmas time I would dress her up in various outfits and we would use it as Christmas card photos. My gelding is not a fan of dress up 😄
Knowing you (and The Lost King!), I'm not surprised at all by this question! I don't wear makeup unless semi-forced, though, so don't have an answer for you... Sorry!
79 do you believe in ghosts?
To some degree, yeah! Our door into the main part of my work building randomly opens sometimes, so my coworkers and I say it's the ghost of a coworker who passed away a few years ago
82 favorite ice cream flavor?
I LOVE ice cream, so I'm loving that this is on everyone's list to ask me! Chocolate peanut butter (mostly moose tracks) and chocolate chip cookie dough! You?
94 favorite lyrics right now
I'm guessing this is true for you too- the Wicked soundtrack has been on repeat all month for me! Specifically "For Good" because I've been trying to memorize it. And I gotta say, "but I know I'm who I am today/because I knew you" resonates a lot with my life over the last month, so going with that!
14. if you can live anywhere in the world where would it be? why?
Well, if I stay in the US, which is obviously likely, then I'd love to be on the East Coast - preferably a Blue State. I'd love Salem, MA, or even NYC, or perhaps somewhere up in Maine. I'd even go for Maryland at this point. Essentially, either Hannibal Country, Lovecraft Country, or Stephen King Country. Give me my Horror Land. If I could afford to leave the country, I'd probably pick England/Wales but there's also the pull of Norway because all things Nordic (heathen) are what calls me home. With England/Wales, I'd be close to @chaotic-hypnotic-erotic, so that'd be a huge bonus, and I'd get to drown myself in tea rooms and several of my literary heroes like Shakespeare and Byron.
49. what was the last compliment you received?
Being told in an IM by @soliloquent-stark that I'm a gift, and being told by @scottxlogan that I put so much good and positive out into the world that I deserve to receive that good and positive back. It's a lot for me after so many in my life treat me like I'm not enough or that I'm lacking in so much that means to be successful.
50. what was the last text you sent?
A response back to Soliloquent-Stark for their response in our discussing the Tony's Birthday Gala fics we both write and received, and kind of how predictable or not predictable we were in this event.
21, 37, and 69! also, Elk Crossing sounds so gd delicious.
Sandals or sneakers?
Sneakers, definitely. I have very wide feet (size 10 EEEE!), and I've yet to find sandals that are wide enough without being too big -- also I have an Irish complexion (very white lol) and the last thing I need is sunburned toes!
Do I read a lot? What's my favourite book?
I used to read a lot, but lately I find I'm having trouble staying interested in any novel long enough to finish it -- as a result, I've started getting into graphic novels.
As for my favourite book -- that has to be The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I think it was the first fantasy novel I ever read, and imo it's one of the best ever written.
Do I play an instrument?
I can play the tin whistle a little bit, and I'm trying to learn how to play the guitar.
Thanks for asking!
(P.S. If you ever come to Canada, you gotta try Elk Crossing!)
