first off, there are lots of different sizings for userboxes. I personally use one that is 640 x 172 pixels, but Iโd say the most common ones are 827 x 168
the blue ones is 872 x 168, and the red one is 640 x 172. Iโll be using the red one for this tutorial.
I will be using Procreate for this tutorial, which is NOT a free app, but this tutorial should work with most drawing softwares, and Iโd say Ibis Paint X is the closest to Procreate.
first, make your canvas and create a new layer and fill the entire canvas.
then, resize the layer to your liking.
erase a line a bit less than 1/3 of the rectangle. The box on the left is where your picture will go.
for the sake of simplicity, the photo box will be box A and the text box will be box B
Select box A and copy it so it has its own layer
look at the layer tab on the right of this photo, thatโs what I mean.
now, you can create clipping masks for both layers.
Add whatever photos or colouring youd like!!
Smack some text on and BOOM!!! Userbox!!
yep thatโs it. This tutorial is very fluid so I suggest you mess around and find a style you like. Thereโs no right or wrong, this was just a simple explanation.
if you need any help hit me up and Iโll try my best :D
We have a question, how do you make your user boxes:3?
Hey there :D!

I use a website called Photopea and its bascially like photoshop but for the browser (and free!)
You can use any art or editing program though for this :D!

The canvas size I use is 909 x 183

Here's what a blank one looks like!
What you need is a small image for the box, a background image, text, and a box behind the text for it to sit on!
here's my layers:
The first layer is the text, which is what you will use to say stuff!
I use a the text tool provided with my program
The 2nd one is the box in front of the background which your text will sit on. It is a pure black box set to 67% opacity!

the next two are the images
The first one is a clipping layer of the image
The second one the small black box with a white outline. The image layer is clipped onto the box.

Finally the last layers is a background layer
Its of an image (sorta a random aesthetic colored one that fits the theme).
I usually type in [color]core into Pinterest to find some images that work!

How I make userboxes (will reblog with image instructions)
I use Ibispaint X (the free version of Ibispaint) so anyone with the app can do this! If you don't use Ibispaint but have a similar app or website, you can still do this! You'll just have to tweak instructions to make it work for your app / website of choice.
First, download the image below (note: it's a black box, so you may not be able to see it on this post, but just click the empty space I promise it's there)
Next, make sure you have 2 images ready. One will be the background, so it can be any shape and colors and whatnot. The second image will go on the userbox next to the text. It should ideally be a perfect square, but a rectangle will work if you want to use one! Refer to the image below for an example:
The background image will be blurred during this userbox-making process. To edit the textbox image so it has a faded edge, follow these quick instructions, or skip to the "Making the userbox" header below.
1. Go to https://www5.lunapic.com/editor/?action=edge-fade
2. Add image of choice by clicking "Choose File" at the top, then "Upload" once you've chosen the image.
3. Edit border size to number of choice (I usually use 30, but do whatever works for you) and click "Apply" to see how it looks (you can do this as many times as you need to until you like the finished product).
4. Click "Your Device" below the image to save it.
Now,
Making the userbox
(Note: picture instructions for these steps will be in a reblog due to image limit)
1. Open Ibispaint, click the plus sign at the top of the screen, then "Import Picture". Choose the black box you saved before to import. You should, have a black rectangle with a white (clear) border.
2. Click the layers button in the bottom right corner, click the camera icon, and select the background image you want. Move it under the box with the three lines on the layer, and click the eye on the box layer to make it invisible.
3. Click the "Filter" button along the side, go to the blur section and click "Gaussian Blur". Use the slider to blur the image to your preference (I usually do 15px).
4. Add a new image above the box layer and click the down arrow at the bottom (next to the lock button). Use the brush tool to color this new layer whatever color(s) you want. Since it's got the arrow, it'll only color on the box and not the background, so don't worry about staying in the lines, it'll do it for you.
5. Click the merge (down arrow with lines) on the side to merge the color and box layers. You should have a box of your choice of color now. Change the opacity of the box with the slider at the bottom to make it somewhat transparent (I usually do 60% but do what you want).
6. Click the camera again to import your textbox image, then move it and change the side to fit into the box. If you want to edit later, use the "Transform" button on the side.
7. Click "Text" on the side, then click the canvas to add text. Type what you want to write in the white box and click and drag the text to move it around. Use the "Font" button to change font, the "Size" button to change text size, and the "Style" button to change text and outline (stroke) color. You can make multiple text layers if you want different colors / fonts of text.
sure, anon! i'll be honest, i don't make userboxes too much (I've never had it on my list of things I can do on my blog), so this was interesting. honestly, might do them for now, they are kinda fun!
i went for a simple userbox of albedo, and the writingย โthis user kins albedo!โ.
its a pretty easy process, at least from my perspective, so sorry if some of this doesn't go into enough detail.
~ rina
Step 1: Making A Base
1: i made this using the rectangle and line tools in photoshop, but you can also use it as a template for any userboxes you make.
2. this is a 1080 x 275 px image, but you can adjust it as needed for longer sentences, shorter sentences, etc.
Step 2: Picking Your Background
1. you can pick a flat colour, or a photo background. i went for a photo background in the icon bit, and a flat colour in the text part.
2. the photo background is from pinterest - the image i used is here. the colour is #f8e9d2.
Step 3: Add Your Character
1. this character transparent is from my new transparent series, the post this is featured in can be found here.
2. i usually keep it mostly in the main icon area, but it can overlap with the rest of it slightly. it looks pretty good that way.
Step 4: Add Your Text
1. this is an easy step. just use the text tool in whatever program you are using, copy and paste what is being written inside, and then resize as needed.
