4. THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF PEOPLE TO MEET. I've been in AMV for 4 years and yet i still don't know more than half of my batch. There are moments, like the yearly batch orientation, when i look around the room and realize that i don't recognize half of them. I'm not sure for some but this is what happened to me. Maybe, not engaging into a lot of extra-curricular activities does this to you. And of course, the population of UST AMV College of Accountancy is..., uhh not sure exactly. But it is a lot. And then, there's the WHOLE UNIVERSITY! I only have a few friends and acquaintances university-wide. This is something that i wish i have done. MEET PEOPLE. EXPAND NETWORK. Well, i still have a year left and I'd love to meet more Thomasians :)

5. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE ARCH OF THE CENTURIES CURSE BUT I STILL COULDN'T/WOULDN'T DARE RISK IT. For those of you who do not know this, they say that whoever passes through the Arch would be DEBARRED. That is, if you do this before graduating or before the Bacc Mass. I know a few people who already did this and are still in UST AMV. And we're already IMMORTALS! We can no longer be debarred from the university. Let me tell you this though, one of them is our DL number 1! So, yeah. I do not believe in the curse but i still won't risk it.

  6. I STILL FEEL ABSOLUTELY PUMPED UP WHEN I SEE A FELLOW THOMASIAN IN A PLACE FAR FAR AWAY FROM UST. Is it just me? When I see someone wearing a UST shirt away from the Metro, I just want to talk to him or her. But of course I don't 'cos I don't have the guts! I promised myself to this at least once before I graduate ;))

7. THE LIBRARY IS A PERFECT PLACE TO STUDY AND SLEEP. Studying in the library has become a huge part of my college life. UST Miguel de Benavides Library is indeed one helluva library. I love how it is conducive for studying. I can stay anywhere in the lib to study but of course I have my favorite spots. I'm sure it's not just me who does this, I SLEEP IN THE LIBRARY. Yes. After a long, tiring and awful day in AMV, I just want to rest and sleep. "Why not go home and get some sleep on your own bed?" The answer to that question is: "BAKA DI NA AKO UMABOT SA BAHAY SA SOBRANG SABAW AT SOBRANG PAGOD KO". And yes. I sleep in the library. There were even times, when I go there to sleep, without any intention to study. Well, I must say that the library is, if not my favorite, one of my favorite places in UST.

I would continue to add more to this list. There is a lot to say. It has been 4 years after all :)

TRUE CHAMPIONS MAKE HISTORY

2013 is not the year the Tigers won a championship.

2013 is the year the Tigers made history.

Every year, there is a new champ. In a year or so, the champion would be forgotten. Quick! Tell me who won in 2008? Can't remember can you?

But you know what won't be forgotten? The fact that a 4th seed team eliminated the number 1 team in the UAAP, a feat which has never been done before. Once the series reaches the semi-finals every year, it will be mentioned that Top 4 UST beat Top 1 NU twice to reach the finals. And which team do you think they would be referring to? The UST Tigers led by Capt. King Tiger himself, Jeric Teng. So yeah, my team lost today but they will NEVER be forgotten. 

But if you want to keep score, UST has 18 championships in the UAAP Seniors Basketball Men's Division. DLSU has 8. Remind me why I should feel sad again?

Mahal ko ang UST Tigers. Pero bakit nga ba?

Nung first year at second year ako, napapatanong ako sa sarili ko.

Bakit kaya sila pumipila ng mahigit tatlong oras sa ilalim ng tirik na araw? Ang haba-haba pa ng pila, ano bang nakukuha nila dun? Hanggang sa maranasan ko manuod ng live na UAAP game.

UST vs. Ateneo ang first game na napanuod ko. Ganoon pala ang pakiramdam. Sa bawat 3-point shoot nila, napapanganga ako. Sa bawat layup nila, napapasigaw ako. Mayroon pa ngang isang player na pumukaw ng atensyon ko. Nakakatuwa pala manuod.  Ang sarap sa pakiramdam magcheer. Pakiramdam ko kasali ako sa mismong laro. Kahit natalo sila nung game na yun, alam ko na gagalingan pa nila sa mga susunod nilang laro.

Nagulat nalang ako sa sarili ko. Nag-iba ang ikot ng mundo ko. Nagising nalang ako isang madaling araw, nagmamadali pumila sa TYK para sa ticket ng UST vs. NU. Naging willing na rin ako mag sacrifice ng oras at pagod sa pagpila sa Araneta para sa UST vs. La Salle game 1 at game 2. Drastic yung changes sakin. Naging interesado ako manuod sa mga laro nila.

Dahil ba sa crush kong player? Siguro, kasi napapangiti ako tuwing nakikita ko siya sa court. Kinikilig rin ako tuwing nakaka-score siya. O dahil kaya napapanalo nila mga laro? Baka, ang saya kasi umuwi pagkatapos ng game na proud na proud ka dahil naka-dilaw ka. Ang sarap suotin ng mga tiger/leopard-printed na accessories para ipagmalaki na Thomasian ka. Ang saya lang ng buong pagkatao ko. Ganoon ang pakiramdam ko hanggang game 1 ng finals.

Nung game 2 na, lagpas ulo na yung stress ko nang makita ko na nakakahabol ang La Salle. Pero tuloy tuloy pa rin ako mag cheer hanggang sa huli. Napatanong ulit ako sa sarili ko.

Bakit kaya nagccheer pa ko eh talo na naman sila? Bakit di ako makatigil? 

Di ko nasagot ang tanong na ito. Pero alam ko sa sarili ko na okay lang na natalo, kaya pang bumawi sa game 3.

Hanggang habang nanood na ko ng game 3, doon ko nalang narealize. Nanghihinayang ako na late na ako naging fan nila. Nagsisisi ako kasi di ako nanuod nung mga unang seasons.

Napagtanto ko. Na hindi pala ako nagccheer para lang sa isang player. Hindi ako nagpapakabilad sa araw sa pagpila para lang makita ang UST Tigers na manalo. Nandoon ako para suportahan sila. Nandoon ako kahit anong mangyari. Manalo man o matalo, nandito ako lagi para sa kanila.

Pero bakit nga ba? Kasi ginagawa nila yung lahat ng makakaya nila sa bawat game. Dahil grabe yung sacrifice nila para sa mga Thomasians at UST. Kasi lahat ng pagod at pawis nila ibinibigay nila para sa ‘tin.

Sa mga effort at pagmamahal na inilaan nila para sa mga game, winner na sila agad. Bonus na lang yung naka second place sila from sixth this season. Super proud ako sa inyo!

Tigers overwhelm Maroons; remain second

The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers came big in the second half to trounce the cellar-dweller University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 79-69, in the UAAP Season 76 Men's Basketball Tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.

041913: FilOil 2013 Opening

I wasn't expecting to be back in the FilOil after a year but it feels so good.  Last year, I covered three summer leagues for my internship and a majority of it includes the FilOil 2012 at the San Juan Arena.

So for this year's opening, three big games were set in the afternoon,NU-SBC, UST-DLSU and ADMU-SWU. I only planned to watch the Tigers' game but stayed anyway. I missed the opening ceremony, too.

Also, forgive the hyperwatermarks because my laptop crashed, I just had it reformatted and I suddenly forgot everything. Ah basta, excuses. HAHA.

This is Jason Perkins, 20 years-old, from Minnesota, one of DLSU's rookies. He was the player of the game with a double-double card of 17 points and 13 rebounds. I think he's a gem. According to coach Gee Abanilla, Perkins is UAAP-ready.

Some new Tigers for the UST roster.

Suiting up for the number 7 jersey for this year's FilOil tourney is comebacking point guard Jamil Sheriff.

There's your UAAP Juniors 3-time MVP, Jerie Pingoy (in blue shirt and socks) from the FEU Baby Tamaraws in the Ateneo bench. Unfortunately, there wasn't any action from him that day.

I think the rookies and new recruits from Ateneo and La Salle (and even NU) are freaking unreal. So much talent! 

As for UST, it's great that we have a great selection of guards but I think we could use some more bigger players. The rookie guards, though, are really fast and agile considering they have to fill the gap that is Jeric Fortuna. It's weird not seeing him play with the UST team but I guess it'll pass. Wonderful roster for us and I hope they train well and hard this pre-season so they'll be a team to watch out for this season's UAAP. I am too excited for that, I tell you!

I guess in due time, I will find it in my heart to move on from the awesomest job I ever had (kala mo ang dami na eh). But for now, I'll keep my media pass safely with me.

I wish all the Tigers the best, and hope that no one from any team will be injured. :)

Anyway, nothing much happened to me since graduation. Just still waiting. Until the next game!
