I always am fascinated by the combination of colors artists choose to put on their palette. And I don’t think this obsession with color will ever wain, but the more I learn, the more I understand that color is the least important element of the painting process. We all see color differently, light changes color, color changes depending on the color it’s placed next to on the canvas and we can’t always trust we are seeing color accurately. Value does all the heavy lifting, but it seems color gets all the credit. 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 - 𝗠𝗬 𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦⠀ "He took a deep breath. All his research had led up to this point. One spell and he would be whole again, no matter what others said. He would be the first wizard to bring back the Dead."⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Last part of resource week - my general process for a full illustrated piece! Swipe for the whole process in pictures and in video.⠀⠀ ⠀ I treated Inktober 2018 as the "sketch phase" to generate 31 ideas in black and white. In general, I’ll just start sketching a few ideas out to see what holds potential. While I do this, I collect reference to help me generate new ideas.⠀ ⠀ For every idea that I decide to make into a full illustration, I make a few rough color sketches (color comps) that help me decide what kind of colors work best with the mood that I want to create.⠀ ⠀ Only after that do I make the full illustration with all the bells and whistles.
