Snow. White, bright, motherfucking snow. Ollie wondered if he was having an out of body experience when he woke up in the morning and looked out the window. The city seemed quiet, almost as if it was uncertain about the weather outside. He could relate. He was from Australia where the cold wasn’t exactly a worry. And since moving to the States, he’d only seen snow a handful of times when visiting New York. Between the robbery at the diner and now the snow, Ollie thought he was losing his mind. He didn’t even want to think about the stare down with a fox of some sort a few days before. The morning called to treating himself, which meant an extra large can of RedBull -- the original so he could actually taste the fuel entering his body. Exiting Delgado’s, he looked up at the sky allowing the snow to land and nestle into his beard. “Is snow a good or bad omen? Because I’m not sure what to make of this white shit.” He glanced over at the person hovering outside the store.

Seb had torn his motel room apart, hoping he’d brought his guitar case in the night before rather than leaving it in his vehicle -- although he knew the truth. The case wasn’t in the truck, and that meant it was gone. Sinking to the floor outside his room, he pressed his eyes closed. At someone’s approach, Seb tried and failed to smile. “Sorry. Will get out of your way.”

"A penguin? Really?" The redhead shook her head as she refilled the man's coffee cup. "I believe you've had way too much to drink and should think about getting a cab home, no amount of coffee is going to sober you up tonight," she said as she leaned back up. Kara turned to walk away when a hand found its way to her ass. The young woman instantly smacked it away, "hands off the merchandise pal," she told the drunk man and moved back to the bar quickly. "Well I've had enough of that for one day, I'll be so happy when my shift is over," she huffed out to one of the other waitresses who assured her that she would finish looking after the drunk man if she took the new one that just came in. "Sure thing Deb," Kara saluted the older waitress and grabbed her writing pad from her apron before moving over to the table, "Howdy, my name's Kara and I'll be your server tonight, what can I get for you? Clam chowder is the special for the night."

“I told Jimmy he needed better security.” Cat sighed as she pushed aside the curtains in the hallway windows and peered out at the front lawn. She had been taking advantage of a lake work shift and slept in, only be woken up by someone screaming about a penguin. She had assumed it was just another drunk person who hadn’t turned in for the day yet and had turned over. Until she heard loud footsteps down the hall and managed to grab her glasses from the nightstand before looking outside. Either she was still dreaming or the Starlite was really going all out for a Jumanji theme though she knew it had to be something a lot less fun. She waited, debating if she should leave the room or watch the chaos from her window. Instead she stepped outside, curious to see if any other guests had left their room or if the staff had any information as to why this was happening. She was sure that someone had put a curse on the place in Jimmy’s absence. She stayed close to the door, shielding her eyes from the sun as she watched the animals roaming, suddenly realizing that they could see her too. Just as she thought it, she swore she made direct eye contact with one of the peacocks and before she knew it it was moving towards her. “No, no, oh hell no.” She turned to go back into her room but realized too late that she had locked herself out. “Fuck, I’m not getting killed by a fucking peacock!” She looked around and started to run towards the front office, screaming at the top of her lungs before she managed to push through the door, yelling at whoever was around her. “Do not go outside.”

HONESTY NIGHT—

We will be hosting our second Honesty Night tomorrow! This little dash event will be a 12-hour block of time in which you can send and answer questions. If you can’t make it, don’t worry! We’ll be hosting another one soon.

A MESSAGE FROM MANAGEMENT—

Dear Staff,

As you may well know, I have decided to use my vacation time to recharge before our hectic holiday season. While I’m gone, I expect everyone to be on their best behavior and delivering service to the usual degree of excellence. 

I will be out of the country from December 5-19, and while I will have my cellular phone on me in the event of an emergency, I may be without service (or I may simply have turned it off, but that’s okay, because I have a plan). 

Should any issues arise, Nadia Benson (@nadiaruns), our Front Desk Manager, will be handling operations, and Ethan Dorsey (@ethan-dorsey), Head Janitor, will field any concerns regarding our facilities. Lila Sinclair (@lilacsinclair), manager of The Shooting Star Grille, will oversee all diner operations, as usual. Should Nadia or Ethan be unreachable, Emery Weston (@emeryweston) is our most senior employee, and I trust that she will step in to help.

In case of emergency, please notify the abovementioned staff members. They will have access to a list of emergency service numbers at the front desk, including contact information for Police, Fire and Ambulance, as well as emergency plumbing contractors. The list also includes the phone number for Nevada Public Health Services and Animal Control.

growing up, thanksgiving had always been an event. her father’s side of the family was big and they all came together to celebrate. the women would cook while the men watched football and the kids played outside, nadia didn’t exactly hate it. nowadays, holidays were different. she’d go out to dinner with her son, ezra, and to a movie. it was good for them. good enough at least. that had been the plan for this year but, jimmy invited her to the potluck. up until the last mi yabluchnyk nute, she was going to stick to the usual plan.

it wasn’t until last night when she decided to show up, extending the invite to ezra. the moment they pulled up, the teenager had disappeared into the crowd of people. though it was a dry event, nadia wasn’t exactly planning on sticking to that rule. she approaches the dessert table, insulated thermos of cold horilka ( ukranian moonshine ) in one hand and a pink box of  yabluchnyk ( ukranian apple cake ) from her family’s restaurant in the other. was a thermos as discreet as a flask? no. did nadia care? another no. “ time to get this over with, ” she says to no one in particular as she unscrews the top of her thermos and takes a drink from it.she wasn’t exactly the mingling type.

“Look man, I’m really not the kiss and tell kind of guy. All I will say is that she is...extremely attractive and I am a very satisfied man.” Ezra laughed as he spoke to one of the other dishwashers and handed him a few more plates. Despite everything that had gone wrong at the motel that week, Ezra felt like he had pretty much had the best week ever. His mom being partly left in charge meant they had to stay later at the Motel. Which for him meant he got to spend more time fucking around with Lola and spending time with Charlie, two of his favorite things. It meant being around people in general which was something he was actually starting to like. As it got closer to a year of them being there, there was a small part of him that was finally starting to feel like he was home. 

Ezra checked the time and immediately undid his apron as he smiled. “Alright it’s time for me to go do. I gotta go see about a girl. I’ll see you tomorrow, alright?” He said his goodbyes and grabbed his bag from the back before heading out towards the dining area of the grille, smiling as he heard Lila’s voice. He had just walked over to her and opened his mouth to tease hear about her excitement when he heard saw her freeze and followed her line of sight towards the door. “Oh shit,” was his first reaction, his eyes falling to his wrist as she pulled him back. He wasn’t sure how he moved his feet because he felt frozen behind her, his heart race increasing as he kept looking from her to the people with the guns in the air. Was this really happening right now? Who hated the motel or Jimmy this much to cause so much shit to happen that week? 

He swallowed thickly, trying to stay calm like Lila was telling him too but all he could think about as his mom and something bad happening to him. “W-we should just give them the money, Lila,” he said as quietly as he moved his hand to grab hers. “I can just go get the money,” he offered, glancing back at them, “It’s better than someone getting shot. Just tell me what you need me to do.”
