Analysis of the Val documentary 2021 poster
So the poster is basically a collage of multiple Val pics that resembles Val's hobby and a reflection of his complexity.
I decided to see which pics made the poster
I think I found them all except for the eyes part. I tried to match it.
This is the best candidate I can think of. It's not the same pic but I think the one on the cover is a non released variation of the same photoshoot.
The other pics
What do you guys think? And if you found the same exact missing Pic.. feel free to let me know 🥰❤️
Ps : I had help from @crazyaboutvalkilmer on Twitter
Val Kilmer auditions for Full Metal Jacket [Val 2021]
@axelwolf8109 @siriuslysteddie Val being a fucking fantastic dad and Baby Jack being absolutely adorable
Val Kilmer (Lieutenant Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky) and Rick Rossovich (Ron ‘Slider’ Kerner) behind the scenes of Top Gun (1986) in Val (2021)
I really just let Val Kilmer hurt my feeling by watching his life story.
No but really, it was a beautifully made documentary. His son narrated parts of it as if he were Val telling his story. It’s not just some “how I became an actor” type of thing. You watch him become passionate about acting. About art and cinematography. You watch him take his hardships and put them into his characters. It really puts into perspective that these actors and artists we tend to idolize, are in fact people too. They have their own wishes and dreams. They have their own passions. It really was beautiful.
“How do you heal a broken heart? What are the words that heal a broken heart? I know that's not the most important question in the world but that's the ball and chain around my memory tonight." - Val (2021)
I noticed you reblog Tom and Val content here and I had a convo with an irl about how they’re almost a tale of two careers and lives in many ways. Starting out at almost the same time, both handsome and talented, but very different career trajectories and lives. Watching Val’s documentary broke my heart tbh and I had always wondered why he never became a bigger star like Tom did.
I mean if you watched Val (2021); to me the answer why Val Kilmer didn't become a bigger star in the eyes of most people was: Batman Forever. Val still gets flack now, years later, for Batman Forever! Which like yeah it's hard to act when wearing that suit being unable to emote and well ACT. I think that's why the people who like him in it tend to lean more into his Bruce Wayne. Because there he could...ya know ACT and do the job he was payed for. That and replacing a popular actor for the role was, yeah that's just bad luck. Honestly comic fans can be SO critical of how actors play the character they sort forget there is not only a person under the mask but that there are many things that could prevent an actor from giving out their best performance. Poor script, focus on different characters, costumes making it hard to ACT. That's around the time he was labeled hard to work with, which is simply untrue. Val, much like Tom, cares very much about his roles and the movies he makes. (At least that's the vibe I get)
But yeah Val's fall in popularity was mostly likely because of Batman Forever.
I right now am thinking about how two movies I liked of theirs came out in 1993. Tombstone and The Firm. Both films with like A STUNNING CAST. Like holy shit!
That being said, like Tom is more well known for sure, but in some circles he is more infamous than anything. Which sucks, it sucks a lot. Especially since it happened so long ago and there is so much we just don't know. I am of the camp of trusting those he works with for his character, ya know. Dude works so hard to give the movie goer the best bank for their buck, and considering how pricey it is to go see movies in theaters, to see all of his work just ignored, yeah sucks.
Honestly part of the reason I am so bummed Top Gun: Maverick hasn't come out yet is, I want to see Val and Tom act together. I was excited because Tom didn't want to do a sequel to Top Gun without Val. Just, awesome, so cool. Paramount better keep that movie in theater for a year like 1986 Top Gun. Really it was there for MONTHS, we should go back to doing that!
The good thing about Movies, anon, despite what spoiler culture has tried to say, is that movies as a whole don't have an expiration date. You can pick up an old movie and see not only a story but how the culture was at the time of the movie being made! A lot of the movies I reblogged are movies I have only seen this year for the first time! And I am loving them, this was the time I needed to see them and they were waiting for me, isn't that so cool?
So while the actor might not be popular at the time, we can show our support for their works now, let them know how much the movies meant to us. How big a star is can totally be in the eye of the beholder.
So to sum up, Val and Tom are cool. Y'all should watch Val (2021) and if you like an actor tell others about their work. Word of mouth is still the most powerful form of story telling, even if it is telling others to see movies.
