the van attack in toronto today was definitely deliberate terrorism and i’m incredibly upset. i was messaged first thing this afternoon by a friend to make sure i was okay because she knows it’s somewhat nearby me. my friend’s baby cousin was being walked by his nanny on the same street today just a little bit before it happened. it could have been them, it could have been anyone i know, and it already was 10 people whose families are devastated. his name was alek minassian and he can be seen in the video trying to get the cop to kill him before he was arrested.
while we don’t know his motives, if the post on his now hidden facebook about “incel uprisings” and idolozing elliot rodger is real, we know exactly what kind of person this coward was and what his influences probably were. this is why we need to actively combat such vehement misogyny and make sure we don’t give people with these twisted views platforms of legitimacy. (EDIT: facebook now confirmed his post is real)
what happened today in my home as innocent people unknowingly enjoyed the long-awaited good weather is a tragedy, and not something i ever want to see a repeat of.
