After vol2 dropped a common interpretation of the van scene (at least from what I saw amongst the GA that understood the subtext and some takes on here) was that will was “ripping off the Band-Aid,” resigning himself to moving on from mike because he believes they will never be together in the way he once hoped.

However what the script seems to affirm (and what I thought when I first watched the scene) is that will is resigned, but not because he’s ripping the Band-Aid off. He’s resigning himself to the fact that he will always be in love with mike even though it’s tearing him apart because the alternative of losing him by pushing him away in order to move on “hurts too much.” Quite literally the opposite of moving on. Which like. ouch but also hopefully a good thing in the long run
