“He’s smiling at you, you know.”

Nani says nothing for a few seconds as she wipes the blush swatches from her arm, fixing her gaze downwards. 

“Isn’t that what he’s paid to do, Honey?”

Her dark blonde friend nudges her cheek, grinning. “Then why are all of his smiling poses pointed in your direction?”

Heat flows to her cheeks as her stomach does that annoying rise-flip for the fifteenth time that day. 

“You forget we’re standing next to the photographer.”

A pause. Honey’s fingers click against the wall abruptly.

“What did you set him up with today?”

“It’s a black-and-white shoot, more...dramatic, they told me. Tried put a lot of emphasis on his cheekbones.”

“Tadashi sure has nice cheekbones.”

The Hawaiian finally looks at her friend, wrinkling her nose in a way that betrays an invisible smile. 

“I guess.”

At her last word, her eyes finally betray her and rest on her [no, not in that way] model, his white shirt unbuttoned, dark hair spiked, face turned for a profile shot.

Tadashi stays in his pose, his face frozen in apparent contemplation for about thirty more seconds before he melts, limbs relaxing, his body melting from the black-and-white freeze to his usual vivid color.

And he looks at her.

Cue her stomach. Rise...flip...

At her stomach’s signal, her eyes follow in her body’s mutiny.

She winks at him, the corner of her mouth twitching upwards.

A few seconds later, he grins in her direction, as flashes of light pepper his face with the rapid click click click.

Honey pokes her side. “How much blush did you give him?”

Nani scratches at her face, almost futile attempt to claw the heat from her face.

“I didn’t.”

Damn those cheekbones.
