I've been working on this piece since March (assuming from the WIP I sent you a while back lol) since I didn't want to miss giving you a gift this time (last year I never ended finishing my other piece and felt bad not giving you anything/gen). I had a lot of fun with this one and hope you like it just as much! While I was drawing, I've also written something along with it. It was supposed to be just a small note but ended up being a big letter, lol. So, I hope you'll bear with me through this one:

To Vanuh,

I know I've said this before in the past, but I really want you to know you've been a huge inspiration to me and a positive light online for the past couple years. Back when I first discovered your blog, I've stopped drawing altogether after a fallout with a friend and haven't felt the want to draw in a very long while. Even if it was unintentional and unknowingly, you've brought me out of that hole and gave me motivation to do art again. I don't know how else to express my gratitude and my admiration for you; not only as an artist, but also as a person. Despite what you may say about yourself, you've always seen kind to us and been real, and what I mean by that, even through the small rambles you post–including in the tags–you seem to never be too afraid to speak your mind on certain topics that you want to voice out (ex: AI art, specific creators, small parts about yourself and life, etc). I don't write this to say that I know you like that, but from the perspective of a follower and your doodles and rants, you've become a person I look up to on the internet and as an artist I aspire to be like. Though we not be mutuals, I hope to interact with you more in the future, and maybe get to know you as well (that is if you're comfortable, of course. No pressure/gen). And I say this with the upmost sincerity: Thank you, Vanuh. For being a beacon of light in this world to us (and a wonderful artist, obviously). Thank you for being my inspiration. And thank you for just being, well, you. Just keep being yourself as I know (and others will agree) you're a beautiful person (and I mean that as in your Soul. Pun intended/j). Well, I hope this wasn't too long, but I meant every word I wrote. Truly. Happy 20th Birthday, Vanuh, and may today be full of whimsy and your following days be blessed.

I kind of wonder what DA thinks about Kiki teasing Jester and Ticket Taker so casually given how high a standard DA holds them to, do they think its brave or ignorant?

And to answer your question I suppose they'd find it brave? The thing is they know where Kiki stands in the circus' hierarchy compared to themself and that Kiki just. Gets to do that! That doesn't mean they don't get a mini heart attack every time they hear them antagonize the two though XD

They do think it's disrespectful, but that's just because they have such a big personal imperative to treat the people above them tactfully. So they don't really like it but they don't feel like it's their place to say. If anything it's a little envious that Kiki can say stuff like that.

Less relevant to your question rambles under the cut, just other stuff your ask made me think of

They have a pretty twisted view of things I think. Very unreliable narrator. Like the 'hierarchy' I mentioned they perceive is not really a thing? or well it is but it's neither as distinct or as enforced as they think. (most of the way I write abt them is from their perspective? or more accurately I write with their beliefs on the inner workings of the circus. It's just. a smidge away from the truth of what's happening.)

But I genuinely think they could become a part of the whole found family thing if they played on the emotional piece. They think it's the only correct way to act but their aloofness is actually holding them back quite a lot. In fact if they cultivated some sort of affection or emotional connection from more members of the troupe it would add to their value in the circus. Because then they wouldn't just be the interloper,the intruder they'd be a protected part of a family.

Doc likes that sort of game though. It's not a problem to him that DA is being fake as hell, it just makes talking to it more interesting. It says things on the surface but there's an entirely different conversation underneath that both of them are actually engaging in. "(...) I adore this fake faith of yours. You lie, and I pretend to believe. I lie and you pretend to swallow every word. What a fun game."

But that's not the case for everybody! "Honesty, such an admirable quality. I like that." (Jester does not like having a lying little prick running amok and being so close to the group)
