Episode 1457: Vanzza and Pies

Translator Notes:

Ugh, I hate the super unsightly aside in the first panel here.  I always do my best not to lazily handle text formatting like that when overlaying English on top of the Japanese, but when you get a thin single-column Japanese sentence, your options very quickly get very limited, especially in this case with that damn arrow so close to the left side of the comic.  I don’t have the original panels nor any real artistic ability, so this was the best I could do in this case.

Episode 1070: Tonfa Training

Translator Notes:

I wasn’t sure whether to make a new joke or to just use the joke that was made in Japanese here.  Ultimately, given that the word “tonsoku” does appear to be in at least some usage outside of Japan, I went with that, though I did add a note for those unfamiliar with the word.  Given how hard some of these can be to translate, if a Japanese pun works verbatim in English, I’m not complaining!

Episode 1042: The Final Outcome...?

Translator Notes:

“Everyone Explains Everything Event” was somewhat loosely translated.  The exact Japanese title was Zen’in Sanka-gata Kaisetsu, which literally translates as “All Members Participation-Style Exposition”.  But, this is supposed to be a title given to a technique, so I figured I had the creative license to make it a bit alliterative for readers’ enjoyment.

Episode 1073: The Tonfa Arousal

Translator Notes:

In the original Japanese script, Vanzza referred to his tonfa doll as “Ton-chan”, -chan being a diminuitive or affectionate honoriffic that one gives (usually to a female) either to one for whom one feels affection or one lower than oneself in the social hierarchy.  Given the casualness that that honoriffic evokes to a Japanese ear, it’s often localized into English by having the speaker giving the person in question a cutesy nickname, which I’ve done here.

The original title of this comic was Tonfaa to Kakusei, which could be translated as “Awakening with Tonfa” or “Being Roused with Tonfa” - I don’t believe it has at least any direct sexual undertones.  However, I liked the double entendre in this English title enough that I figured, what the hey, I’ll go with it anyway.  Titles are made to be catchy and punchy, anyhow.
