Also my wife's dog, Rumba, who we call Dr. Rumba bc he is EXTREMELY in tune with people and will react to my pain spikes before I do. (He also literally saved my life last year bc I had a low blood sugar event while taking a nap & nobody would have checked on me for hours bc they were working. He stood over me and whined and licked my face until I woke up.)

What is the one thing about your job that you wish people understood that they generally don't seem to?

Probably that we aren't trying to hold your meds hostage from you, the patient. As techs, it would genuinely be easiest for us if we could just... get you the meds.

A strange number of people, if something isn't covered or in stock or is too soon, will act like I'm intentionally trying to screw them over and I have no idea where this comes from. If nothing else, my job would be easier if I could just give everyone every single med.

And also maybe that prescription insurance isn't the same as medical insurance and it can be stupid-complicated, especially Medicare. God I fucking hate Medicare; the amount of unnecessary hoops they make patients jump thru is unreal and a lot of it is outside our control.

Another good one to know is that we don't have any special way to get ahold of your doctor faster than you do. Actually, as the patient, you're more able to get ahold of them than we usually are. With insurance, we do often talk to a different dept, actually, so sometimes we can help with that. (Altho insurance phone calls suck cuz they take too long.)

I want to be a community leader by the time I reach Vaspiders age, but in the sense of being someone who actually helps people. Instead of like, making my money off the backs of younger less financially stable disabled people and considering myself an "authority" who "makes statements" like vaspider does.
