“Ah, diplomacy. So much better than people stabbing each other at banquets.” Hopeless. “No one is stabbed at banquets.” “Pity,” Nie Zonghui muttered. “I know!” Nie Huaisang nodded vigorously. “I keep making a note in the clan’s records every time we come back from another discussion conference. ‘Did not stab Jin Guangshan. No one else did either. Better luck next time?’”
Nie Huaisang is disappointed in the cultivation sects’ lack of action (chp. 2)

The diplomatic mission went fine, until the white horse yao kidnapped the necromancer’s boyfriend.
(The Companion would like to object to yao.) (Lan Wangji objects to boyfriend.) (Wei Wuxian objects to… Fine, whatever. The locals have a word for the ghost path? Roll with it!) (Queen Selenay would just like to know when the gods will stop dumping legends on her doorstep.)
AKA Nie Huaisang plans to fix everything. Oops.
Embers by Vathara @wuxiaphoenix
Special thanks to @sayornispress for letting me use their typeset to complete these binds for the 4th annual @renegadepublishing exchange! Thanks to the mods and my giftee for their patience while I struggled lol 🙈
I hope my giftee loves them as much as I loved making them. I'm glad they arrive at their forever home.
This is what the gift economy of Fandom is meant to be!
I kinda didn't understand what over 700,000 words meant when I first decided to bind this monster of a fic. But I was excited to learn to round books and do these 2 bookcloth cover designs. I also came in possession of a very large and diverse variety of heat reactive foils... so here we are lol. I think each book from printing to completion took me 20ish hours?
Below the line, you will find more information regarding these binds
Do you ever have a scene from fanfiction that stays with you for literally years, and you dream of writing anything even close to that level of viscerally compelling?
Because it's been 10 years and I still think about the scene in Vathara's "Embers" where Zuko waterbends for the first time.
Been trying to read this famous/infamous Avatar fanfic Embers, and this part of one of the author's notes finally got me to say "fuck it" and drop the fic.
I live and die by Embers (Vathara)
That fic fundamentally changed me. I think of it way too often to be healthy.
More than one person has recommended me this fic called Embers because of my post about wanting Teo and crew to become airbenders, so now I’m gonna read it! I started this fic when i was a kid, but i never finished it, cuz it was still being updated at that time and yknow, i was 12 lmao. Im super interested to see if i understand it better, i remember it being hard for my 12 yr old brain to follow, but now im 29 so. Hopefully my reading skills have improved. My question is, should i do a liveblog of this fic? Obviously i am now a liveblogger, so this is my destiny.
This fic has a tv tropes page omg.
Fanbinding - Project Tatterdemalion, by Vathara (@wuxiaphoenix )
This project has been a long time coming but I am VERY happy to present Project Tatterdemalion! Vathara (@wuxiaphoenix ) is THE author I had in mind when I first started fanbinding.
Project Tatterdemalion is a Bleach sci-fi AU in which hollows are an alien monster virus. It features tentacles, biocontainment, and last minute genius solutions by the science team to save the day... and introduce new problems.
I think the wait was worth it for this binding - because I moved to Japan, I was able to source a really excellent chiyogami paper for the endpapers. I used arrestox for the bookcloth, and titled using a freehand foil quill pen (yes, it was as painstaking as you imagine). I decided to use the Kuchiki crest for the front cover, as they're the ones funding this little black ops research center... so they might have a copy of the unredacted report. The Gotei 13 diamond crests work out really nicely for the volume numbers!
Overall I'm extremely happy with how this came out. Can't wait to hold it physically for my next reread!
