The leaf takes a large circular shape, because of the shape and size of this leaf, it has been used for many purposes, since ages, before polythene bags ever came into existence, this was used widely as a plate for serving meals and for packaging any food items like meat/fish from the market. In Kerala, this leaf is also used to prepare a delicacy called Illayappam, a healthy steamed sweet dish made from rice flour stuffed with jackfruit/bananas/green gram with coconut, jaggery and spices.
