For today’s Breakfast, both sis and I opted for Vegetarian Food. Sis got her fried bee hoon (rice vermicelli) with mock char siu. Also included are both pickled green chilli and red chilli paste. Mum went overboard and picked for me four vegetarian dishes of curry mutton & potato, stewed knotted bean curd skin and sweet & sour pork with a crispy vegetable fritter.
Mum herself went for the Mee Tai Bak Soup (米苔目汤) or 老鼠粉 as some would call it because of the shape of the noodle which is tapered like a mouse tail. Comes with pork slices, minced pork, pig’s livers, fishcake slices and lettuces.
Breakfast bought from the coffee shop closer to home. Mum typically went for the Braised Duck Porridge when ordering from this stall. She will ask for extra portion of duck minus the skin. Because it is early, the economy rice stall is still in preparation so I chose Vegetarian Rice instead. Mine came with curry mock mutton and potato, a piece of crispy vegetable fritter and imitation pig’s intestines and kidney.
A late breakfast of Vegetarian Rice with my favourite curry mock mutton & potato, a piece of crispy vegetables fritter and two sticky “ribs” of savoury sweet pork ribs with sugarcane as bone.
Was tasked to find my own dinner so I dropped by to the food court at Sun Plaza to purchase a takeaway pack of Vegetarian Rice. Picked the sweet & sour pork, curry chicken & potato plus crispy vegetable fritters with white rice.
After last night dinner of vegetarian rice, you might think that we have gotten sick of vegetarian food. No, we are not and here are our breakfast from a very popular stall nearby our place. A lady I met on the bus told me that the stall is doing brisk business amid the pandemic whereas most food stalls are struggling to stay afloat. Mum and sis had the Fried Kway Teow with mock Char Siu while I took the Vegetarian Rice option with the usual mock curry mutton & potato, stewed bean curd skins and a piece of vegetable fritter which the seller cut up into more manageable sizes.
